Possession shape with the ball

Here:

Purple team attempt to keep possession through both halfs of the pitch, with the end goal of playing into the striker and having at least two of your midfielders in the attacking half of the pitch.

Example dimensions can be 80 x 70 but adapted for your group

Transition to defeding (compact)

Transition to defending:

In this example - The left winger loses possesion, so steps into the function and applied immediate pressure with the attacking mid and the striker (from behind)

The RB and LB, drops in compact with the CB's and two Mids drop into the defending half of the pitch, screening the ball into the CB's.

The aim for the reds, is to use possession to play into any one of the back 4's feet.

You will see that the right winger has dropped intp the attacking space vacated by the RB.

Note: If the ball is not won by the LW and ACM/ST, then the reds step into the defeding half and the ACM and LW drop behind the ball to compact.

Transition back to attacking (counter)

Here the ball was played into the LCB feet

Now the transtion is ito attack - and potentially a counter attack.

The technical movement of the ball to free players here is KEY and to the strikers feet (for the piurposes of this session)

The midfielders and winngers are demanded to transition into the attacking zone immediately to suport the striker and start the exercise again

Progress this in many ways:

(Examples)

1. Have to complete a # of passes in the attacking half before being played into strikers feet

2. Can you get Holding mid onto the half way line and complete 10 passes in attacking third without reds winning
