Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Dribbling, turning

Ball mastery / unopposed turns (20 mins)

Size of the area is approx 10x10, adjusted to suit the age and ability of the players.

1. Players start in pairs by 2 of the cones as shown. All 4 players work at the same time performing specified ball mastery exercises to the cone and back as shown. The aim is to arrive at the far cone and back to the original cone at the same time as the other player to add a small amount of pressure to ensure the players have the ball under control and to turn at the correct time.

2. Progress to the players moving to the same cone and back but now with quicker dribbling and specific turns at each cone as specified by the coach. When doing this part of the session you could choose to add another 2 players to each of the starting cones so the players work in pairs, first player dribbles out to the cone, turns and passes back to their partner and sprints back.

1v1 score in either goal

Players lined up as shown with attackers furthest from the 2 small goals and defenders nearest to the goals. The attackers decide when to go (as long as the defender is ready) and dribble the ball at pace. The attacker aims to score in either goal, if they want to score in the goal nearest to where they started they have to get past the half way line before they can turn then get past the first line of red markers. If they attempt to score in the goal furthest away from the starting point they have to get past the 2nd line of red markers before they can shoot. If the defender wins the ball they try and get the ball into the coach for a point. 

A point system can be added so 1 goal for scoring in the goal furthest from the start point and 2 / 3 goals if the attacker turns, beats the defender and scores in the nearest goal to the starting cones. Defender 1 point if they win the ball and score in either small goal or 2 / 3 if they get the ball into the coach.
