Juggling Warm-up (5 mins)

Organization: Players either spaced out or in a large grid

Objective: To attain set number of juggles without ball hitting the ground

Juggling Requirements - Minimum Standard

U7/U8    = 30 Juggles      (2016/15"s)

U9          = 50 Juggles      (2014's)

U10        = 100 Juggles    (2013's)

U11/12    = 200 Juggles    (2012's/2011's)

Coaching Points:

  • Right foot, left foot only
  • Ladder Juggling: 1 juggle catch, 2 juggle catch, 3 juggle catch, etc. (for younger teams and players struggling)
  •  Foot, foot, thigh, thigh (REPEAT)

Ball Mastery - Footwork (15 mins)

Organization: Set up 2-3 cones a couple feet a part to simulate a line.  One player with a a ball behind each cone setup.

Objective: Players need to get as many close controlled touches behind the line of cones.  Players will use various touches listed below.  Each touch will be with both Right and Left foot and will be done in a certain time and in a certain number of sets.

Touches/Skills to be used:

  • Outside/Inside Single Foot (Right then Left)
  • Outside-Outside/Inside Single Foot (Right then Left)
  • Outside - Step On Right then Outside - Step on Left (repeat)
  • Outside - Outside - Step On Right then Left (repeat)

Time: 30 seconds 3x

  • First 30 seconds focus on technique
  • Second 30 seconds focus on technique and speed
  • Last 30 seconds full speed

Coaching Points:

  • Technique - Technique - Technique (Focus on technique before speed)
  • Get head up as players become more comfortable on the ball
  • Use both feet
  • Push Pace and intensity in the final 30 second round

Passing/Receiving with Touches and Dribble to Goal (15 mins)

Organization: 20 x 20 yard pitch with two goals set up as shown above.  Yellow cone set up 7 yards away from a group of 3 red cones and a blue cone set up 5 yards away from red cones.

Objective: Player B begins by checking to Player A in front on red cones.  Player A plays ball to checking Player B who receives inside of foot.  Player B then preforms and Outside/Inside touch technique then begins to exit to the players outside and preforms the dribbling technique of Outside/Inside Right foot then Outside/Inside Left foot and repeat for 10 touches.  Player B then pushes ball into space and passes the ball into the goal which is the target.  Player A moves to Blue cone and Player B gets ball and moves to yellow cone on opposite side.

Time: 3 minutes 4x

  • Make Corrections after first set
  • Pick up foot speed and dribbling technique after second set 

Coaching Points:

  • Properly receive the ball with inside of foot
  • Good quick Outside/Inside touch with Outside foot exit 
  • Good tight touches when dribbling, make sure to dribble more side to side than straight
  • Head Up looking for target
  • Quality Passes into target goal

Passing/Receiving with Touches and Dribble w/Combination (15 mins)

VARIATION #2

Organization: 20 x 20 yard pitch with two goals set up as shown above.  Yellow cone set up 7 yards away from a group of 3 red cones and a blue cone set up 5 yards away from red cones. Orange cone is 8 yards from red cones.

Objective: Player B begins by checking to Player A in front on red cones.  Player A plays ball to checking Player B who receives inside of foot.  Player B then preforms and Outside/Inside touch technique then begins to exit to the players outside and preforms the dribbling technique of Outside/Inside Right foot then Outside/Inside Left foot and repeat for 4 quick touches.  Player B then play a ball to Player C who one touch passes back to Player B who receives and pushes ball into space and passes the ball into the goal which is the target.  Player A moves to Blue cone, Player B moves to orange cone and Player C gets ball and moves to yellow cone on opposite side.

Time: 3 minutes 4x

  • Make Corrections after first set
  • Pick up foot speed and dribbling technique after second set

2. Separate players into 2 teams

3. 2 small goals

Instructions:

1. Encourage players to work on attacking and beating players off the dribble and be creative.
