Practical 1: Specific / Breaking Lines
Welsh Way Principles - Playing through / around / over
Understand when and how to play through, around or over the
opposition based on the type of pressure applied.
Organisation: full size Goals X2, small goals X2, 8 total Cones to taper field halfway. Small goals 2 yards behind tapered line.
Length is half size of an 11v11 field. Full width to bring out session topic in a game realistic way.
Play 9V8 (1GK)
Reds (Team coached IP) (1-4-3-3) Missing Full backs
Blues (Team managed OP) (1-4-Diamond-2) missing Striker and wingers
Explanation: Reds try to find a way of adhering to principles of Breaking Lines by finding ways to get in, around or over the opposition based on the type of pressure applied. If Reds score a goal - its worth 3 and play restarts with the Red team CB with ball served in to bring out the session more and manage the opposition in a realistic way.
How: Reds (Coached team) adhering to Welsh Way principles of Breaking Lines, Blues (managed opposition) working to sub principles of being compact and narrow between the lines, forcing away from goal, prevent split passes. If opposition are more successful in winning the ball, challenge them to touch and or time restrictions (6seconds to score) - if they do not complete that challenge, award other team a free kick and play live from there.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:1.) Reds must punch holes in opposition lines with split passes and receive 3 points for being successful in that - bonus goal if they score past the GK.
2.) 1 goal for playing around or over - bonus goal if they score past the opposition goalkeeper.
3.) Opposition has 6 seconds to win ball back
4.) Opp has 8 seconds to score
5.) Limited touches for opposition
