Technical: Contact (10 mins)

Technical Practice

Organization:

1.Open space

2. Each player gets a partner and ball.

3. Partners stand 2-3 yards apart

Volleys - 

Instructions:

1. Drop and kick to partner.(Using proper technique- lock ankle, point toe down, bend knee, and follow through).

2. Partner should be at 2 yards apart (adjust for how many players and space at field)

3. Switch roles of players.

4. Play for (X) amount of time or 10 - 15 reps.

Coaching Points:

1. Is player leaning back?

2. Is ankle coming unlocked?

3.Toe down

4. Ankle Locked

5. Chest forward

6. Hit on sweet spot of foot

Technical: Follow through/Hips (10 mins)

Topic: Shooting technique, approach, follow through/land on kicking foot, HIPS

Organization:

1. Players 8-12 yards apart

2  Separate players into groups of 2

3. 1 ball per pair

Instructions:

1. Start with players striking the ball back and forth with laces on the ground focusing on approach first and follow through land on kicking foot.

2. Play for (X) amount of time. 

Coaching Points

1. Plant foot should be LENGTH of your own foot away from the ball.

2. Moving ball: In front of the ball

3. Dead ball: next to the ball

4. Hips: Cues "Sassy Soccer Hips" or "Floss" (Lean towards plant foot)

5. Approach: At an angle

6. Follow through: Land on kicking foot 

Progressions:

1. Challenge: can you make the ball skip once before getting to your partner.

2. Challenge: can you drive it in below the knees (20-25 yards) no side spin

3. Challenge: drive it in, volley it/1/2 volley to self

Combination to goal 1 (10 mins)

Topic: Combination play with a shot

Organization:

1. 30 x 40 yard grid

2. 1 Large goal with keeper

3. Separate players into 2 lines (as shown)

4. Have extra balls between the 2 lines of players.

5. 2 - 4 speed poles (as defenders)


Instructions:

1. Players will start with the ball in each line.

2. First player will dribble up to the pole pass, then move to the side of the pole where his teammates will preform a wall pass for them to score

3. The teammate behind the pole moves laterally to open up, so they will move to give a teammate a passing option.

4. After the players shoots on goal the other player giving the wall pass will collect the ball and go to the end of the other line.

5. Make sure players rotate between the lines so they use both feet.

6. Play for (X) amount of goals, first to 10 goals wins!



Coaching Points:

1. Proper technique - (lock ankle, knee over ball, head down and follow through)

2. Body Shape - (ready for the pass)

3. 1st touch - (play in 1 touch or 2 touch if necessary).

4. Movement off the ball  - (2 or 3 steps away from the pole to create space).

5. Weight of the pass - (controlled pass and enough power so that shooter can run on to a shot on goal).

Progression:

1. Use the other side of the pole for the wall pass.

2. Have the 2 players on the poles switch so they are checking to the ball.

3. Goals only count when they hit the back of the net (in the air).

Regression:

1. Have the player take a controlled touch after receiving the ball from the wall pass.(controlled touch then shot).

2. No keeper, score at will.

Combination to goal 2 (10 mins)

Topic: Opening up hips for a shot across body.

Organization:

1. 30 x 40 yard grid

2. 1 Large goal with keeper

3. Separate players into 2 lines (as shown)

4. Have extra balls between the 2 lines of players.

5. 2 - 4 speed poles (as defenders)

Instructions:

1. Players on the outside will pass the ball to the player in line.

2. The player in line must receive the ball then perform a move (scissors, step over,cruyff).

3. After the move take a touch to one side then a shot on goal.

4. Player on the outside passing the ball then retrieves the ball from the shot on goal and then goes to the end of the line.

5. Player that shoots on goal becomes the passer on the outside.

6. Play for (X) amount of goals, first to 12 wine!

Coaching Points:

1. Proper technique - (lock ankle, knee over ball, head down and follow through)

2. Body Shape - (ready for the pass)

3. 1st touch - (play in 1 touch or 2 touch if necessary).

4. Creative Move - (players performs move without hesitation).

5. Weight of the pass - (controlled pass and enough power so that shooter can control it, then shoot on goal).

Progression:

1. Have the passer stand behind the pole and throw the ball into the players body or chest so they have to control it, then take a shot.

2. Bounce the ball into the body.

3. Have the players in line throw the ball to the player on the outside so he/she heads the ball over the pole and try to regain control , then shot on goal.

Regression:

1.Players dribble the ball preform a move then shoot on goal.

1v1/2v2 transition (10 mins)

Topic: 1v1 transition

Organization:

1. 25 x 25 yard grid.

2. 2 large Goals are place 15-20 yards apart

3.. Balls should all be at both sides with every player/team


Instructions:

1. Start the activity with coach throwing the ball in. Players from each side attack the ball and play 1v1 to goal

2. If one player scores they then defend the next attacker from the other team

3. If a player misses the goal and it goes over the end line same scenario

4. If a player kicks the ball out over the side line the opponents next attacker comes on with the ball!

5. Game is continuous

6. Teams compete against each other

7. Play for (X) amount of goals.

Coaching Points

1. Directional aggressive 1st touch

2. Commit the defender to enable you to beat them

3. Use a move to beat the defender

4. Accelerate once around the defender

5. Avoid the defender by playing quickly, dribble and shoot!

Progression:

1. Play 2v2 limit touches in the small grid.

2. play 3v2 or 3v3 1 touch.
