Line Soccer - Where/How/Why/Who/When to pressure effectively.
1v1 Line Soccer
15x8 area with 1/2 way markers
Defenders start by passing the ball, then close down the attacker 1 point is scored if the attacking player can dribble the ball across the defedners endline.
If the defender wins it, they can score a point by passing it to a team mate - other scoring in progressions.
Coaching points:
Fast - Slow - Side-on - Low
Fast- move when the ball is moving
Slow- when the ball is under control
Side-on - to make play predictable/steer opponent to sideline or team mate
Low - balance, agility, power
Objective 1 - Delay/steer opponent to sideline can only win the ball in defensive half (Absorbing Pressure) can only counter from own half.
Objective 2 - High Press - win the ball back as quickly as possible in the attacking half. - can only counter from attacking half.

If he wins the ball, he can play to a team mate for a point.

Jockeying Practice: Defending going backwards - objective: Delay/Steer
Group 1 dribble the ball in a straight line (slow to start) from onse side of the grid to the other. group 2 attempt to jockey and keep their partner in front of them keeping them on the same foot as they dribble.
Once they are across to the other side, players swithc roles and group 2 players dribble back to the start point with Group 1 players jockeying them.
Progress to the following:
Dribblers work on the other foot.
Dribblers can switch feet while traveling with the ball - defenders must pivot using back foot.
Dribblers increase speed to challenge defenders footwork
Dribblers can attempt to pass defenders with the ball.
Coaching Points
- Body mechanics - side on to keep the dribbler on one side (make play predictable)
- Low position - lower center of gravity helps balance, helps defender be more explosive in changing direction or accelerating away.
- Footwork - fast feet, no crossing over, body weight in back/ pivot on back foot if needed, steer opponent where you want them to go.
- Distance - appropriate distance will force opponents head down - too close will cause defender to get beaten. Too far away allows dribbler space and time to increase speed.
- Back foot in line with ball/ front foot directing opponent.
- If attempting to win the ball, use front foot to stab, back foot to block/tackle as last resort.
