Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Dungeons & Dragons

Practice (10 mins)

Set up

• Set up an area (circle / square etc)
• 3/4/5 zones ("dungeons")
• 2x teams of 3/4/5/6 players in each
• More players = more dungeons needed

• One team ("knights") are trying to rescue the prisoners from the dungeons (ball), whilst the other ("dragons") are trying to stop them escaping
• Knights (rescuers) pass the ball through the dungeon to score a point and can release one ball (if it has been captured)
• Dragons can intercept but NOT tackle - if they intercept they can capture the ball into the dungeon
• Dragons are not allowed in the dungeon
• Knights cannot go into the dungeon unless they are releasing a ball that as been freed

Progressions

• 1) Knights have to receive a ball in the box
• 2) Dragons are allowed in the dungeon
• 3) Dragons can tackle
  
• 4) Dragons can 'burn a prisoner' (ball not in play any more) by dribbling outside the main area with it

• Attention / awareness
• 1v1 situations
• Change of speed / direction
• Close control
• Using both feet
• Decision-making
• Passing with different parts of the feet

Think STEP

• Space - do you need to make it larger (easier) or smaller (more challenging)
• Task - can you change the task or challenge?
• Equipment - can you add target areas for example?
• Players - can you increase/decrease the number of players?
