  • 3 teams in each zone. 4th team will be on the outside as the crossing players.

HOW TO PLAY:

7v7 Conditioning Game (20 mins)

ORGANISATION:

  • Flat cones to funnel the defensive 3rd of the red team (attacking team).
  • 7v7 with 2 GKs.
  • Red (Attacking) 1-1-2-3
  • Blue (Defending) 1-4-2

HOW TO PLAY:

  • 7v7 game.
  • Yellow Team are defending in a 1-4-2 low block to try and regain possession and attack quickly to score.
  • Red Team are attacking in a 1-1-2-3 with wide players 7 and 11.

COACHING POINTS:

  • Set up Red Team in attack to play wide to the 7 and 11. 9 and 10 can make underlapping runs into the penalty area.
  • Set up Blue Team to defend in a low block by putting pressure on the attacking wingers. As the ball moves into the wide channel for the attacking No7 and No11, the 2 and 5 for the Blue team need to press the player out wide as the 1st defender to the ball. This needs to be done by moving fast and bending your knees on approach. Stand side on and force the player back to goal.
  • The 3 or 4 need to move close to the 1st defender to provide cover as a 2nd defender.
  • The 6 or 8 needs to provide added cover as the 3rd defender.
  • The defender on the opposite side needs to come in and remain compact with the other defenders, almost in line with the far post.
  • When the ball moves to the opposite side, the Blue team must replicate the sliding movements to press the wide ball carrier and provide adequate cover (2nd defender / 3rd defender).
  • If the wide ball carrier plays the ball behind or back to maintain possession, the blue team need to remain compact and step up collectively to deny space for the attacking team. Blue team MUST communicate this to each other. This could be with body language or by telling them to push forward.
  • When the 9 or 10 makes an underlapping run, can the 6 or 8 from the Blue team deny space by pressing the ball carrier or the runner receiving the ball. The CB and the FB with provide defensive cover as the 2nd and 3rd defenders.
  • If the ball switches from one side to the other, the defence needs to react and deny a goal scoring opportunity. The 2 or 5 MUST quickly press the ball carrier by bending knees and standing side on to force the player back to his goal. Once they play back the defending team need to take a step forward.
  • Once the defending team (blue) win the ball, can they create an attacking opportunity themselves in transition.
