Physical Phase: SAQ
Players split into equal groups, one player working at a time for each group.
Player starts at Cone A, sprints to Cone B, and slows down to 50% to finish off the sprint to Cone C. Player shuffles/backpedals back to Cone A.

WarmUp Phase
Objective: Player A drives the ball across a 12yd distance to Player B. Player A presses the player but does not try to win the ball. Player A is working on the technique of individual defending:
Interval: 30 seconds work, 10 seconds rest: 5 minute intervals. Players then switch roles.
5 S's:
1. Shut Down-close the space quickly
2. Slow Down-slow down as you approach the player so that you do not get beat with a change of direction
3. Stand Up-stand the player up in front of you
4. Sideways-Force the player sideways or backwards
5. Safety-Keep the goal safe, know where the goal is at all times

When: When the ball enters the defensive third
Why: To prevent goal scoring opportunities/to win the ball
Organization: Two cones separated 12 yards apart. 2 balls per group.
Outcome:
-Correct body shape when defending
-Knowing the 5S's

Simple 1v1
Objective: Players compete in a 1v1 to Goal. Coach serves in a 50/50 ball that both players try to win.
Focus purely on the defending techniques in this drill.
Organization: Two goals facing each other on the end of a 20x15 yard box, all balls in a pile at coach's feet.
Intervals: 1 minute max per rotation, 15 minute total.
What: 1v1 Defending
Where: Close to goal (defensive third)
Who: 2,3,4,5
When: When ball enters defensive third
Why: To prevent goalscoring opportunites/to win the ball
Outcome:
-Winning the ball in a 1v1
-Using the various tackling techniques
-5S's

Small Sided games to encourage 1v1 scenarios/indiviudal defending. When a goal is scored, play restarts with a white goal kick.
