Movement Prep: Passing pattern for Midfield 3
Set up: A large box that is roughly 20x20 with three flat discs in the middle to represent the 6, 8 and 10. Two cones on the outside of each endline.
Description: Two players pass the ball into the closest midfielders, who bounce ball into wing. Those players then receive and play long to the far line, who dribbles back quickly. Restart with the next two players on the end line. As players are dribbling back, the midfield rotates.
Coaching points:
Firm passes that stay on the ground
Passing into correct foot of the midfielder
Midfielder bounces ball quickly so teammate can run onto the ball
All actions are done at pace

8v8 with central box
Setup: Create a midfield box that stretches between the half spaces from Zone 2 and 3. This can be adjusted depending on ability.
Description: The possession team has two touches inside the box. Out-of-possession team cannot win the ball in this zone, passive defending only.
Key questions:
How can the possession team receive inside the box in a position that allows them to build with two touches?
When the ball goes into the box, what can players off the ball do to create space?
What passing options do the central players need in order to be effective?

Part: 3v3 + 3 for Midfield 3
Set up: A large central grid that is roughly 20x20, depending on age/stage of players.
Description: Set up with a midfield 3 (6, 8 and 10) and two CBs and a striker. Red starts with the ball and looks to connect with midfield 3, who look to transfer to 9. Outside players are on two touches. If Blue wins the ball, they look to maintain possession by moving between their CBs and striker.
Coaching points:
Keep possession
Quick passing
Keep ball on the ground
Midfield movement
Create space

Whole: 7v7 in channels focus on midfield
