Cross the River.
3 sections. The 2 on the ends of 20x10y the middle is 20x5y.
The goal is to get 3 passes in your area before trying to make a pass to the opposite end. Once the ball has entered either end a defender from the middle may enter the area to play defense. The other defender are passive in the beginning. A ball won by the defender, passed outside the area or any other 'loss of possession' and the team that made the mistake moves into the center zone. Players may dribble in their zone.
Progression 1: Defenders in the middle zone are now active and attempt to intercept passes and close off passing lanes.
Coaching points: Players must be aware of 'half touch' - the ability to look up and be aware to know where their options are before taking their first touch. The awareness to see through lines of defense is the ultimate goal of the drill. Most players will only be able to focus on close square and line passes to begin. As they progress the through ball will start to develop.

7v7 half field. One team set up in a defensive 4-3 (back 4 and 3 mids) set up. The other set up in an offensive 1-3-3 (1 CB, 3 mids, 3 forward)
Coaching points - The goal is to attack and/or defend through the lines of the other team. The defensive team is focused on being able to stop attacks, stay compact and organized. The offensive team is using the 7 and 11 to attack the wide channels and pull the other team out of formation and create chances.
