Title: Crossing zone Training stage 1 - (20 minutes) - Discuss attitude & getting into crossing zone
Organization / Activity: Players are separated into two teams. Set up grids based on the numbers within the sessions. Players run around the 'player' her team mate then throws the ball with their hands into the air / onto her head, the player is then tasked with heading the ball into the back of the net. If you have GK's incorporate them, if not the player who has just head the ball becomes the GK to defend the opposition. Blue team then repeats the same action. First to six or five minute rounds, two minute rests, change sides.
Plan for failure / Coaching points:
Players will attempt to head the ball standing still with both feet on the ground - demo how to attack the ball with everything moving / landing forward
Players will fail to use their arms for balance / gain momentum on the header. - discuss positioning of the hands and elbows
Players will fail within their heading technique, discuss surface area of your forehead and heading the ball down / on target
Progression:
A- Players attack ball in the air - Rotate GK's based on if players score / teams.
1 - Add cut back zone cross & near post run
2 - Add crossing zone with the pass from midfield service - progression: discuss 7/11 options if they're struggling in the 1v1 battle
3 - Heading Wars. All players. Volley balls count for 5 - emphasis on attacking the ball.
