Players
Split into 2 even teams, 8 players on either side. If session has 16 players If your session has 16+ players
Timings
5x 2mins with 1 min rest in between.
Explanation
- This session focuses on 1v1 / 2v2 situations and encourages players to be positive both in possession and out of possession.
- Each player in both teams will be given a number between 1-6 (this can be adapted to however many players you have)
- All of the players will be waiting ready by their team cone.
- The coach will have a pile of balls.
- The coach will call out one number e.g. 4!The number 4 players will run onto the pitch and try to retrieve the ball.
-If successful they will try to dribble past the opposition playerand then strike at goal to score.
- At the end of each round count up how many goals have been scored for each team and ask players to change their number to face adifferent opponent in the next round.
Encourage to think and act positively.
Encourage braveness - to take the opposition on to score.
Encourage tempo - keep the ball close but move it quickly
Progressions (Harder)
- 'Hat-trick goal' - can you win the ball first, dribble around the player and into the goal. This is worth 3 goals instead of 1.
- Add Goal Keepers

5 x 4 min games with 2mins rest in between to get a drink, rotate the teams and to discuss any progressions if needed.
Explanation
- The games are directional.- Goals can be scored by either shooting in the goals or dribbling through one of the 2 pole gates either side of the goal.
- 1 goal isrewarded for a ball in the back of the net.
- 2 goals are rewarded for dribbling through a pole gate.
- Play always starts with a player dribbling or passing a ball onto the pitch. (no throw-ins the player will dribble or pass it on).
- If a goal is scored by shooting / dribbling or the ball has gone out behind a goal the player that restarts the game can make a decisionto pass or dribble the ball back into play. - Footballs are spread out between pitches to encourage players to think quickly and dribble / pass the closest ball onto the pitch ifa ball has gone out of play.
- This also increases tempo and touches off the ball.
- At the end of each game allow players to get a drink and reflect on their performance.Rotate the teams around the pitches so they play different opposition.
- At the end of each round count up how many goals have been scored for each team and ask players to change their number to face adifferent opponent in the next round.
Encourage players to act positive and dribble in 1v1 situations.
Encourage players to think positive to dribble onto the pitch.
Encourage players to work as a team.
Remind players of the pole gates to encourage positive dribbling
Progressions
- Add bonus points for positive dribbling.
- Attacking team can only enter opposition half whilst dribbling with the ball.

- Defending team must retreat into their own half when the ball is out of play

Timings
5 x 2mins with 1min rest in between and to change the 'Pirates' (Blue players).
Explanation
- Every player has a ball apart from the 3 original pirates (Blue) who are holding a bib each.
- The session begins on the whistle. The pirates run in and try to steal (tackle) the ball off the reds. If a pirate steals a ball, they will thentry to score in one of the pop up goals.
- The players can try to win the ball back before it goes in the goal or out of the area.The pirates get a point for every goal they score (into the caves).
- As soon as their ball (Reds) has gone out of play or in the goal they will run to the pile of bibs, pick one up, then return to the game asa pirate.This means as the game goes on the pirate team increases.
- At the end of the round, find out who was the last player(s) to survive the pirate attack!
Objectives
- Encourage players to take small touches to keep their ball under control and to scan for danger (pirates approaching to tackle)
- Encourage players to never give up, even if they have been tackled.
- Encourage pirates to work as a team and to score as many goals as possible.

- Add another goal for the pirates to score in

- Increase the size of the area
- Take away goals
- If tackled, only become a pirate if your ball ends up in the goal.
