Drill (20 mins)
Drill.
Red Formation -11vs11 = 4-2-3-1.
What to do;
- Feeder starts with the ball.
- Passes the Ball to 3.
- 3 plays pass infield to 4/8.
- 3 makes a forward run, overlapping WMF.
- 4 plays a pass into the path of moving 3.
- 7 rolls in field. (in line with D of 18 yard box for cut back or to attack the cross)>
- 3 crosses the ball into the box for 9 who has made forward run into box & opposite WMF has joined back post in line with edge of 6 yard box and penalty spot.
Flat markers are placed down as a guidence for starting positions.
Coaching Points.
- Quality of pass. The ball should easily reach Team mate as Drill is Unopposed therefore no pressure is applied from defending players.
- Type of Pass. Short & Long passes as used therefore different techniques will be used. (Side Foot, Chip, Driven)/
- Movement to receive. "in and out" movement to create space and temporarily "lose" defender. (theroetically speaking).
- Movement after the pass. Support Run / recover run into space incase possession is lost.
- Side on when receiving pass. (seeing 3 corners).
- Control ball with back foot, with a good first touch.
Player Specific Coaching Points;
2 & 3 - Body position when recieving the ball needs to be open, this allows fast ball into midfield or WMF.
- When overlapping use clear communication to tell the WMF that the overlap is taking place to avoid running into same space.
- Good quality delivery when crossing.
4 & 8 - try to drop in to receive the pass off feeder or FB.
- Receive pass on half turn with back foot to enable a fast turn with quick pass and high intensity.
- Aim to play split pass between mannequins for forward running players.
- Look to cover or push forward when ball is played forward.
- Communicate with attacking player to ensure understanding between attackers. (who goes where, where the ball is going, who the pass is for).
7 & 11 - Look to feed overlapping FB's.
- Roll infield when FB is overlapping for Cut backs and defensive cover and balance.
- When opposite WMF or FB is crossing look to get into the box in line with edge of the 6 yard box and the penalty spot.
9 - look to get into the box for crosses.
Green Lines Indicate Movement for players when opposite combination is taking place.
