1 team of 10 players maintaining possession
1 team of 5 working as pressing players
Building on from previous practice
9 x 1.5mins blocks (roatating teams) - 3 sets of 3
1 min rest/recovery between blocks - use time to give info
Linked into game model of desire to regain possession, protect central areas and make the pitch big (height, width, depth) in possession
Coaching Styles
Concurrent
positive reinforcement
Walkthrough/coaching process in breaks if required
Principles
Go together, restrict spaces
Quick press on ball carrier (get his head down)
Anticipate/predict pass
keep one side/prevent switch/defend ball side
Wolf pack mentality
Organisation
3 teams, 2 merge as possession team, other is defending.
25x25 square
team working for 1.5 min
If win the ball - 1 point
If win the ball and dribble out - 3 points
if win the ball and score in mini goal - 5 points
Possession team to immediatly counter-press on transition to regain possesion

Key Factors
Resistance based training
Specific Team training
4 x 5min games
2 min rests/recovery between blocks to give info to individuals or units
3 1/4 pitch - taken in for consideration of missing players
Coaching styles
Concurrent
Positive feedback/direct instruction
Walk-through/Coaching process if required
Interventions in breaks (individually and globally)
Organisation
Reds looking to build up play - playing a 2-2-3-1 (minus fullbacks)
Greens low block, playing a 4-3-1 (minus wingers)
Ball to start with reds GK
Key Points
Desire to regain possession on transition
Closest player to apply immediate pressure, aggressive press, get opponents head down
Secondary defender threatens best pass
Additional players squeeze space around the ball, cut off central passes
Can we regain possession?
Can we make them make a mistake, kick it long to regain possession or play back into pressure
Conditions
Coach red team - manage oppostion
If greens win the ball in their defensive third, they must make 4 passes before scoring
If coaching team wins ball in final third and score goals count double
Detail
Closest player - apply pressure, press from side make play predictible, force wide and away from space
Secondary defenders - read closest players press, cut off best passes and suffocate space around the ball. Man for man, lock on or threaten. Do not allow inside or switches of play as they kill the press. if this does happen and we cant apply pressure straight away then drop into mid block and await pressing ques and triggers.
CBs - be alert of long ball over head - think about positioning - balance and cover.
If 10 goes in to help go all way in with him so he cant turn.
All - Think about 'What if' during possession build up, what if team mate loses the ball, am i in a position to effectivly counter-press. Judge distances. Best players think of defending when theyve got the ball and attacking when they dont.
On counter-press trigger (turnover in possession) have 7 second fury to regain possession, closest player must enguage ball carrier within 2/3 seconds, secondary defender cut off within 3/4. If we are unable to regain the ball within the press then drop into mid-block, all players to restrict spaces between each other and await opportunity to apply effective pressing system
Triggers to above mentioned scenario-
Ball played wide - Use touchline as an additional defender, lock on centrally, dont allow inside - be aggresive
Bad Touch - trigger to enguage
Travelling ball - press prior to first touch, anticipate best pass, force mistake
Backwards pass - squeeze space, all units to press higher to restrict space
References
In build up phase - Team to remain overloaded on ball side with far side wide player coming in to inline with width of 18, travel back touchline wide when ball goes centrally.
If wide player loses the ball, nearside CM to threaten/press closest CM, 9 to press CB, prevent switch. 10 to press deeplyer. Far side wide player to come into central channel and threaten central passes, important he doesnt lose track of where oppostie fullback is incase they do switch.
CBs to play high to condence space in between the lines on press engauge.
If we cant regain possession go into mid block, all within midfield third, all within width of 18 yard, protecting central areas. Tempt/bait wide pass, when ball travels, can we use as a pressing trap.
Nearside wide player, press, dont allow inside or back.
9 - threaten passes into CBs.
10 - lock onto CDM, dont allow him to role you, press far side.
Nearside CM - get tight to nearside CM
far side wide player - come in with farside CM

General practice
4 v 4min games
Rest/recovery time 1 min between blocks - use time to give feedback and info
Linked into game model of desire to regain possession, reaction on transition (counter-press) Making pitch big in possession (height, width, depth) finding spare player(s)
Key Factors
Intensity/agression to the press
Go together
Make play predictible, cut off the pitch
Use sideline as an additional defender, stop central/split passes
Organisation
30 lenth x 15 width
First team to 50 passes wins
Can send 2 defenders to press on turnover
Progressions
Player that loses possession must attempt to win it back
If you make land-mark passes (10/20/30/etc) then can send an additional man
If you win the ball and transfer it back to your square reset opposition passes - counter-press on transition
