4v2 keep possession and switch

Organization:

We have 2 teams, one in possession and another team resting to win it back.

  • Red team has to try get 5 passes before they try pass it across to the other reds.
  • Blue team is trying to win the ball back and stop the reds playing across the box
  • This drill is about keeping the ball under pressure and switching the play for the red team.
  • For the blue team this is about pressuring the opposition and forcing them into mistakes.

Football actions:

  • (1) Red team need to create as much width and depth as possible to allow for the two men pressing.
  • They need to keep calm and try not take too many touches on the ball due to the small spaces.
  • When they get the six passes, they need to assess their options. Just because we have our requirement met doesn’t mean we go to pass it straight away as they can still intercept, we still might need an extra pass to get a switch.
  • Our teammates on the other side of the box need to be ready to receive the ball, they should also be making movements to offer for the ball so we can switch easier.
  • (2) Blue team need to work together if they want to get the ball back.
  • They need to try force the red team into bad areas and then win the ball back.
  • If they know the weak foot of their opponents then try put them on their weaker foot to force mistakes.
  • If the red team gets 6 passes then blue team needs to change their focus slightly and now prioritize stopping the red team switching the ball.
  • They do this by communicating with their teammates behind them and trying to force a bad pass.
Time: 12 mins done in x4 3min rounds.
