Description

Social Distancing return to football. Small group session of 5 players. I will be using this session with adult players to ease back into training. It can be done at low, moderate or high intensity depending on what your players want.

I wanted to include aspects of fitness, some ball manipulation followed by some game related practice finishing with shooting exercises. By all means these activities can be changed/improved.

In between activities the players will have 1 ball each working on ball manipulation, this can be player led.

Activity 1 (5 Mins)

Setup: Players 2m apart - each player has 2 cones close to each other (blue) and 1 cone in front - about 10 yards away.

1). Relays. Always start with a movment at the beginning followed by a run to the cone in front (low intensity to start)

- Hop and Hold (left to right) / In & Out of cones / Figure of 8 (movements to start with)

Arm Swings, Side-Steps, Forwards-backwards into short sprint, Crossovers, Skips, Hip Rotations, Stright Leg Kick Ups, Bicycle kicks, Leg behind into knee up, Fast High Knees, Open Strides, Side Shuffles

Recovery: Walk back after each exercise

2). Add a ball. Same format but now using a ball. Dribbling out to the cone in front and dribbling back.

- Hop and Hold (left to right) / In & Out of cones / Figure of 8 (movements to start with)

Changing speed of dribble, direction, amount of touches (take 10 touches before reaching the cone), left or right foot, skill (step-overs etc).

Activity 2 (5 Mins)

Setup: Players 2m apart - each player has 2 cones a couple of yards away next to them (orange and white in this instance) and 1 cone in front - about 10 yards away. (High Intensity).

1). Coach calls "left/right" and player must perform a quick reactive moment to get to that cone and recover to the center. When coach calls "go" they perform short sprint to the cone in front. 3 commands - left / right / go.

2). Same set up - but this time coach calls a colour, if coach calls "orange" the player must sprint around the orange cone and the white cone followed by a sprint finish to the cone in front. 2 new commands - orange / white.

Coach can still call left / right but this is to test player's reactions but also their focus. Alternatively if coach calls "white" the player runs around the white cone followed by the orange and finishing with a sprint to the cone in front.

5 commands in total - left / right / go / colour 1 / colour 2

Recovery Time: Walk back to start after each set.

Activity 3 - (15 Mins)

Passing and Recieving Drill - Setup: 5 areas to ensure players are at least 2m apart (use big area and seperate into 5 sections for each player).

Play begins with Player 1. The first pass is played to Player 3 who plays a bounce pass to Player 2. Player 2 then plays across to Player 5 who plays the ball back into Player 3's feet. Player 3 then passes to Player 4 who plays back to Player 1. In total there is 6 passes in this sequence with each player touching the ball once and Player 3 touching the ball twice.

Player 3 is the connecting player between the yellows and the blues. When the ball is played to the Blue side they must make 2 passes (one to player 3 and one to either player 4 or 5) and on the third pass the ball is returned to the yellow side.

This is to encourage movement off the ball and reading the game. Player 3 is encouraged to make movements across the pitch so that he can link up play. No 2 players should be on the same side (i.e both yellow players at the top of the pitch, they must be positioned as above)

Progressions: Different sequences of passes or rotations of positions after a pass to get players to think about what are they doing after the pass.

Activity 4 - (15 Mins)

Shooting Practice setup: 5 Players - 2m Apart all with different starting positions. Balls positioned in the middle of the pitch - coach feeds the ball in to player 1.

The ball is played to Player 1 (who is always the shooter in this drill). They open their body up and either play to Player 2 on the yellow or blue side. In this instance it's the yellow side. When player 2 is recieving the ball Player 3 is making an overlapping run on the left wing for player 2 to feed him in. Player 1 spins and Player 3 crosses the ball in for Player 1 to finish.

Players to rotate after each sequence. So in this instance Player 1 would move to Player 2's Position (yellow) and Player 2 would move to Player 3 (yellow). Player 3 would then become the shooter (Player 1 - black).

Encourage 1 touch play, 1st time finishes, movements off the ball (under/overlapping), different types of pass/cross, using weak foot, shooting under pressure (time limit).
