Description

Block 3, Week 8

This week we want to try and cement the setting position of especially our young goalkeepers. We will be moving around a mannequin to ensure they have a little move than setting to deal with, we will then move onto some multiple saves to get them working as we see the end of the block in sight

Move & set (20 mins)

Instructions:

On command, the GK is to move around the mannequin and set in front of the ball for the shot / throw

* We must ensure here that the GK is moving around the mannequin effectivley and is setting in the right position and properly with his shoulders and elbows over and in front of his knees

*The GK is to alternate what side of the mannequin he moves around

service: scoop and c-catch

Progression:

L & R dives to both sides

Service: low & mid levels

Coaching points:

* The GK is to move with short & sharp feet to the set position

* Set with elbows & shoulders over the knees to ensure forward diving

* Forward diving

* Eyes on ball all the way to hands

Angles (20 mins)

We are to show how their posistional play will help them make things very hard for any striker to get past them

Instructions:

On command of either L or R the GK will move from a central position to set in front of the ball from an angled position, where he will set to receive the ball

service: ground

Progression:

The markers will be removed and a mannequin set in front of the central postion to disrupt the GK's movement

Coaching points:

* GK moving at speed to set position where he should have a good set position

* The GK's heels are just past the front post so any dive will be done safely with any deflction going forward past the post

* GK is setting centrally

* Short, sharp feet

Instructions:

C1 & 2 can pass the ball between them, when one of them can break away, turn and shoot

No progression on this drill

Coaching Points:

* GK must be aware of the ball at all times, to move and react accordingly

* Ball to be watched all the way into hands

* Ball to be secured not parried

In this shooting drill the C's have a number of options and the GK is going to have to stay on his toes in order to save each ball

C1 to move and shoot

C1 to pass to C2 who can turn and go in for the 1v1 (A)

C1 to pass to C2 who can turn and shoot (B)

C1 to pass to C3 for the shot

C1 to pass to C4 for the shot
