This session beds in the concept of 3rd man runs, showing a short and long option, with gradually increasing possession. It can be adapted as a ISP or squad session with GKS

30x20 area, or bigger if a squad session.
Players are shown as two teams but work together initally.
GK rolls out to R1 , who controls first then plays into R2 (target man)
Body shape is trigger for R2 to show near and check for ball to feet and bump to R1
R1 supports and plays 3rd man R3 into the space created by R2.
R2 spins and receives diagonal pass from R3, and finishes in 1 touch OR sets back for R3 to finish 1 touch. (add week foot finish if desired)
Rotation : R3 joins q at B3, R2 joins q at B1 and R1 becomes the next target man.
B1 then restarts the move playing into R1 target man, and B3 makes the 3rd man run.

Set up as previous but R2 (target) checks off to show for a longer pass from R1.
He plays short to R3 as R1 makes the 3rd man run to receive a diagonal pass.
R2 spins out to run wide and receive final pass for a 1 touch finish, or a set back for R1 to finish.
Rotation: R2 joins B3 group, R1 joins B1 group, and R3 becomes the next target man to receive long from new B1 (3rd man) and attack opposite goal after pass from B3.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Add defender B2 who starts at the 10m mark and closes down R2 as he shows for the ball.
Gradually allow B2 to start closer to R2 increasing the pressure - B2 may start to try intercept the pass - so allow R1 and R3 to exchange passes giving R2 the option to check in and out and receive from either player when he makes the space away from B2.
If (as shown) R3 were to make the pass then R1 would make the 3rd man run.
*B2 is drawn out of position as he follows R2, creating space behind
Red attack for 2mins with all players rotating roles, and then allow blue to attack.
Progress by encouraging the long inital pass depending on the position of the defender.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Now allow a 2nd defender who starts in the final third and a 2nd centre mid. The 2 mids make different runs and the reds must make the right decision dependent on blues positions. All options of passing allowed provided a 3rd man makes a run and receives a pass. Finish always 1 touch.
*B1 struggles to cover B2 as he goes forward, AND becoming 1st defender as the 3rd man receives and runs forward.
Should blue win the ball they can pass out to a team mate, the drill pauses and blue then attack 3v2.
Reinforce defensive discipline and width/support in attack.

Set up same both teams but have 2 players designated as 3rd men runners.
Players 7 and 11 can both make runs off the ball, 9 comes short and spins off.
Note that 10 does not make a run forward but looks to support from deeper.
Change the 3rd men after each attack, or 2 mins.
Progress by coaching defending team into changing 1st defender and covering across, also tracking runners.

Play 4v4 or 5v5.
Players must pass, not dribble, into final 3rd.

Warm up heading game (15 mins)
15x20 area with fairly wide cone goals. 2 channels.
Teams of 4 or 5.
Players pass the ball by heading to a team mate who must head on or head to himself and then catch.
No running with the ball. No catching unless receiving a team mates header or an opposition mis-header.
If the ball hits the floor, it can be picked up by closest player on any team.
No intercepting by hand, must be a heading challenge.
Score in the cone goals.
