Dynamic Warm up (10 mins)

Objective: Warm up and prepare the players for the session

Set up: As shown, use as many stations as needed to minimize lines.

Instructions: Start with the left SAQ warm-up, without the ball. Focus on correct foot work along with arm and hand positioning. Demonstrate ladder footwork and dynamic stretches. When you move to the second part, demonstrate the correct passing technique. Make sure that you work both feet when using the ball.

Key words: Take your time, do it right, speed it up if you feel comfortable

Passing Warm up (15 mins)

Objective: Work on passing rhythm. Use every part of the players foot to pass and dribble the ball.

Set up: As shown, use as many stations as needed to minimize lines.

Instructions: W2 starts by passing the ball to W1. W1 and W2 play a give and go, in between passive defender Y1. W1 dribbles back to the start and the defender (Y1) goes to the opposite cone to start pattern on other side.

Key words: One touch, use both feet, speed it up if you feel comfortable

Guided Questions: 1. Why do we use both feet? 2. How can we receive the ball on the run? 3. What foot do you pass with?

Answers: 1.To improve our ability to use both feet. 2. Time your run correctly. 3.The one that allows you to play the ball naturally in one touch.

Orientation Stage (25 mins)

Objective: Coach the defenders (RED) to create problems for the attackers by knowing when to press, getting compact and staying compact.

Set up: As shown, play 1-4-3-1 (blue) vs 0- 2-4-2 (red). Blue plays to the end zone and red plays to the big goal.

Instructions: Play a game with regular rules. Start with 10 balls being played only from the blue goal line. After the the 10 reps, play from where the ball goes out. Blue scores by controlling the ball inside the zone.

Key words: Get/stay compact, pressure, cover and work together.

Guided Questions: 1. Who pressures the ball and why? 2. Why do we move together to defend? 3. How do we defend when going 1v1?

Answers: 1. The defender closest to the ball, to prevent the player on the ball from moving it forward. 2. To stay compact and deny/close any openings. 3. Make play predictable. Show them one direction/ guide them towards sideline or pressure. Delay until help arrives.

Learning Stage (25 mins)

Objective: Identifying when to dribble or when to pass, to keep possession of the ball. Coach the BLUE team. 

Set up: As shown, play 1-4-3-1 (blue) vs 0- 2-4-2 (red). Blue plays to the end zone and red plays to the big goal.

Instructions: Play a game with regular rules. Start with 10 balls being played only from the blue goal line. After the the 10 reps, play from the sidelines. Blue scores by controlling the ball inside the zone.

Key words: Get wide, pass, dribble, support (where the support should be), penetrate.

Objective: To use what we learned in real game situations

Set up: Set up a full 11v11 game, Blue team plays 1-4-3-3 and the Red team plays a 1-4-4-2

Instructions: Using regular rules, play a game with minimal coaching.
