Description

This session is the first day back after two days off.  The team has already lifted this morning at 6 am.  This session is designed to be moderate and start our week off.  The session theme is POTB.

Rondo 8v2 (10 mins)

Objective: mental and physical activation game for the training session.

Set-up: 10x10 grid. 10 players.

Instructions:  players play 1 touch keep away.  If the defenders win the ball they drop the vests and transition quickly into the possession.  

Timing:  Play 4 minutes, stretch on their own 2 minutes, play 4 minutes then go into dynamic stretch.

Coaching Points: (1) quality of passes, (2) receiving the ball open across our body, (3) proper passing and receiving, movement to fill in spaces, fast transitions from defending to attacking and from attacking to defending.

Dynamic Stretch (done for 10 yards)

Movement (full 20 yards)

1. Side Slide; 2. Tapioca; 3. A Skip forward/ A Skip backward; 4. Open Gate/Close Gate; 5. High Knees/Butt Kicks; 6. Carioca; 7. Lateral Skip; 8. B skip/Power Skip 10. Stiff Leg bound/Backward run

Jumps

1. Squat Jump to 45 degree broad jump x 6 (stick landing) 2. Lateral bound x 6 (stick landing)

3. Squat jump to 45 degree broad jump x6 (bouncy) 4. Lateral bound x 6 (bouncy).

Speed/Agility

1. Sprint forward/backward 5 yards stick it each direction, sprint out 10 yards x2 (switch lead foot)

2. Sprint forward/backward 5 yards, sprint it out x2 (switch lead foot)

3. Shuffle x 3 steps stick it, shuffle 3x steps back and stick it, sprint 10 yards x 2 (alternate direction)

4. Shuffle x 3 steps forward and back then sprint it out. No stick. x2 (alternate directions)

5. Cross over x 1 step and stick it up/back then sprint it out 10 yards x2 (alternate directions)

6. Cross over x1 step and back, then sprint it out 10 yards x 2 (alternate directions).

iSkills - Y Pelopina Patterns (20 mins)

Objective:  improve two touch receiving and passing and work on pelopina.

Organization:  Y passing drill with mannequin and poles on each side.  

Instructions:  Players 2 pops off mannequin, gets pass from Player 1, receives ball with back foot then passes it to diagonal Player 3, then executes a wall pass between P2 and P3.  

Variations:  (1) instead of wall pass with P2, P3 pelopina's around the pole, passes to P4, who then plays it thru to P3.  (2)  If P1 tells P2 "man on" she lays it off for P1 who plays directly to P3 who dribbles to the end of the grid, (3) same as #2 but P3 and P2 wall pass it.

PP 5v5+4 (20 mins)

Objective:  improve our positional play.

Organization:  20x30 grid, 14 players, 5 on each team + 4 neutrals.  Divide the field into quadrants.  

Instructions:  teams play 5v5+4 possession.  

Coaching Points:  (1) quality of passes, (2) movement without the ball, (3) positioning, (4) can we find the ball inside?

PP 9v9 4 Goals (20 mins)

Objective:  to improve our build-up play.

Organization:  40x30 yard grid.  12 yard zones with 2 yard end zones on each end.  4 goals.  2 at each end.  

Instructions:  Balls always start with a goalkeeper.  Players try to build-up and score a goal.  The team with the ball can move into any zone.  The team without the ball can only defend in their zone.  Goalkeepers are only attackers.

Coaching points:  (1) pivot the ball in the back 3v1, (2) use pelepina move, (3) center backs drive central to create advantage, (4) find the open space on the opposite side.
