Following the Tooting and Mitcham game we felt that our distances between units, "Defence/Midfield and Attack" were to great and also our recovery runs to get back into shape were not quick enough!
The focus on the session will be on squeezing the game up in the players respective units and how quick they can recover back into them when they have turned over possession. There will also be an emphasis on fitness levels, with this session and game coming up in the Christmas period

Recovery Runs/Squeezing the Play, Conditioned Game - Set Up:
- 60 x 40 area as above with a central zone
- 8 v 8, teams line up in a 3-3-2 formation (no Gk's)
- Teams look to score with a one touch finish in the goal they are attacking
- For the goal to count the attacking team must not have any of their players in their final third, encouraging the defensive unit to squeeze up the pitch.
- Likewise, if the defending team have any players in the attacking third and they should conceed, then the goal will count double for the attacking team.
- Tempo should be of match intensity ensuring players are squeezing up in there units and recovering with speed.
- Teams should be encouraged to break and score as quickly as possible

Squeezing the Game - Defensive and Midfield units should recognise when the team have good possession and they are able to squeeze up the game. They should also be alert on turnover of play when it may be necessary to drop of to prevent being taken out by a long ball over the top.

Recovery Runs - Warm Up/Skill Practice (20 mins)
Recovery Runs, Warm up/Skill Practice - Set up:
- 2, 30 x 20 areas set up as the image
- 4v4 Game with 2 x small goals. When a player loses possession they must perform a recovery run around the opposition goal as this creates a 3v4 defensive underload until the player has recoveredo
- One touch finish to score, no Gks
- Round Robin Competition, teams all play one another in high tempo 5 minute games. Forefit for the losing team
Key Points:
Recovery Lines - Players should be aware of the 4 recovery lines and make a decision to recover to the ball, an opposition runner, recover into a space or recover into the defensive line.
Speed of Recovery - On losing possession, players should recover as quickly as possible and have the positive attitude to want to support the defence in getting behind the ball and regaining possession.
Delay - As team mates are recovering, players in defensive positions should aim to delay the attack and allow time for the recovering defenders to get behind/pressure the ball
