Key Factors - to mentally activate the mind set of the goalie in preparation for a game or training session. This drill will prep the goalie in reaction and speed movement. movement from the floor to feet - fast feet around center cone.
Organisation - 2 green 2 red 2 yellow and 2 blue colored flat mats or cones situated either side of the goal posts on the floor as shown in the picture. The goalie will then lie on their stomach and spread the cones out arms length so their fingertips are touching each cone.
One cone will be placed in the middle of the goals set slightly behind the line to provide coordination geography.
Both goalies will preform the drill at the same time. Deliver/coach will command a colour to touch i.e. blue,blue,blue red,yellow etc. this can be preformed for a max duration for 30 secs or for a minimum of 5 seconds.
when ready the deliver/coach will call on a goalie 1 or 2 - the goalies will have to be concentrating and switched on.
Once the deliver/coach has called a Number the goalie will rise to their feet as fast as they can and maneuver around the middle cone diving to their side i.e. goalie working on their right (A) will dive to their right - as demonstrate in the above.
progression - mix the colours of the cones - i.e. red becomes yellow and yellow becomes red. call yellow they touch red and vice-versa. further progression would be to then mix the other remaining colours. this is good exercise to improve one's cognitive abilities which can aid with reaction skills.
