- Decision Making on choice of 1v1 technique

- Decision Making to attack ball or drop
- Increase awareness of factors influencing decision making i.e. recovering defender/ angle of strike/ weight of pass etc

Activation Game

Set up/Organisation/Description:

  • 3 mini goals with 1 GK in each
  • 1 central feeder in middle area 
  • Coach feeds balls in as shown

Instructions/Explanations:

  • Each GK must defend their goal
  • Coach can strike directy on their goal, dribble in or feed into central player for 2 touch max finish on goal
  • Rebounds are live; GK must track every ball
  • Every ball played to a finish (GK collects or out of play)
  • 2 min rounds- GK who conceeds most lost; GK conceeding least wins

Progression(s)

  • Game becomes king of the court
  • Aim to reach the goal as king and stay there- every win as king scores 1 point
  • If conceed rotate round and replaced by player below you
  • GK that conceeds becomes central player and aims to score on goal to get back in the game

Technical Activation

Set up/Organisation/Description:

  • 2 flat marker goals perpendicular to each other with 1 GK in each
  • 1 feeder opposite each goal

Instructions/Explanations:

  • 1 touch pass return
  • 2 touch pass return
  • Passing sequence as shown
  • Volleys
  • 1/4 turn low dive
  • 1V1 knock in for dive at feet or pass to angled feeder for close range block

Progression(s)

  • 2 balls working same time
  • Recovering defender on last option to increase complexity of GK decision making

Technical Practice

Set up/Organisation/Description:

  • 2 mini goals angled as shown with flat marker goal betweeN
  • Coach in middle with 2 angled feeders; 1 at each mini goal
  • 1 GK behind coach with 2 balls; 1 either side

Practice 1:

  • Coach passes to either angled feeder to attack corresponding mini goal- GK defends goal
  • Player behind coach dives at feet to attack ball at opposite side

    Practice 2:
  • Coach attacks central goal as phase 1
  • Angled feeder then passes ball towards mini goal as second phase to replicate rebound after 1v1 scenario
  • GK behind coach still dives at feet on opposite ball

    Practice 3:
  • Same as practice 2 initially
  • Angled feeder that does not hit rebound then turns and attacks GK behind coach who now has mini goal to defend

Progression(s)

  • Replace 2 mini goals with 7 aside goal

Game Related Practice

Set up/Organisation/Description:

  • 2 mannequins/ poles to replicate back 2 in 7aside football
  • 1 GK in 7-aside goal
  • Striker, 2 wingers and CM (Can become CB, CM, FB in possession)

Instructions/Explanations:

  • Play begins with GK dealing with back pass from defender and playing through into CM (Can switch play then out or bounce pass then out)
  • When ball is into CM he can play through ball for Striker or Winger 1v1 on keeper
  • If keeper holds ball then transition on counter attack by distributing to mini goals

Progression(s)

  • Striker can link/ rotate with CM before through ball or may turn and strike
  • Recovering defenders- If CM plays in winger then Striker recovers as a CB. If Striker played through CM or FB can recover
  • Can add mini goals and play as 2v1 game. If defender wins ball aims to break out and score in mini goals as 1v2 underload 
  • Can add coach as floater to create 3v1 and 2v2 if needed to create 1v1 scenarios
