Return To Play session 2 - building on some of the ideas from the first session. Similar activities so that the players feel comfortable and continue to build confidence.

Organization

Activity
-movement prep and ball manipulation activities. Divide the group into 2 teams that will compete doing a variety of races.
i) Running (around the box and zigzag the box to all progressions)
ii) Run - Shuffle - Back Pedal - Run
iii) Add dribbling around the cones plus pass
iv) Ball manipulation (dribble, inside-inside, pull rolls, inside-outside)
**change up starting position - standing, sitting, laying down, etc
Coaching Questions
-can you be quick with your reactions and changes of direction?
-can you keep the tempo high? Remember it is a competition!
-can you keep your body and ball under control to maximize your speed?

Activity
-coach calls a number (1-4) - on the command one player from each team runs to the middle square then changes direction towards the square close to their goalkeeper to receive the ball - then run at speed down channel towards opposite goal to shoot. First player to score wins point for their team. Switch goalkeepers frequently.

-why will reacting quickly to the signal give you an advantage?
-how could you shape your body to receive pass?
-where would a good first touch be so you can accelerate into the open space?

Activity
-Each team is split into 2/3s. Put the mini groups into alternate areas. The aim is to pass to your teammates across the opposing teams area without losing possession and then to score by knocking down one of the 3 targets. Teams can intercept the opposing teams ball when it is being passed through their area and can try and keep possession of 2 balls.Coaching Questions
-why will communication be important with and without the ball?
-how can you create spaces for your passes and shots?
-why will good technical passing and receiving by needed in this activity?
