Handling, one-touch pass, backset, k- block activation
GK catches or receives volley or pass from the coach or another GK. If it's a volley to the hands the GK can either roll or throw the ball back to the coach or other GK. If it is a pass back to the GK they play a one-touch pass back. The GK then backsets behind mannequins and comes forward between the mannequins and gets set as coach or GK gets ready to strike the ball on the ground at the working GK who performs a block save.
Progression- Double Save
GK performs two side rocker saves ( GK laying on their side as coach passes the ball on the ground for a save with hands and pushes the ball back)
GK then gets up Moves forward and gets set in front of the mannequins as the coach or GK gets ready to strike the first ball (on the ground) for the GK to perform the K-block save then the coach/GK clips the second ball mid-level at the GK to block with their body using K-block or spread technique.
Coaching Points-
- Proper set position
- Hands and arms in front not behind or at the side
- Recognize when to get set
- Speed of approach
- Be Brave

Break-away save with Recovery for an Angled Shot-
- Coach plays a big touch out of his feet and runs after the ball. The GK attacks the ball and makes a save with their hands. The GK then gets up back sets and comes forward to cut down the angle for the shot from the wide player.
- Coaching Points-
- Quick reaction to recognize the big touch out of the feet and go hands first to the ball
- Positive Step forward in direction of the ball
- Bacset to come forward to get in line with the next shot
- Have feet set when the attacker prepares to shoot
- Hands in front, waiste level, on balls of feet ready to make the proper save.

Team Training 1v1's Plus GK
Players play 1v1 starting from about 23 yards out. If the defender wins the ball or a shot is taken the attacker now becomes the defender. This continues for a set amount of time.
The GK needs to communicate with their defender as to how they should defend. Examples-
contain, steer wide, defend left, defend right, no shot, communicate keeper if the GK decides to come out and attack the ball if there is a big touch taken and the defender is beaten.
Progression- 2v2 Plus GK
- Play starts with a switch field of play cross to a wide attacker. The wide defender(#2,3) can't press until the wide player receives the ball. The second defender(#4,5) and central attacker(#9,10) can now engage in the play. The GK needs to communicate and keep his defenders organized. If the GK makes the save they distribute ( sidewinder kick, clip off the ground, Overhand throw) the ball out to the coach or player(#7,11) making the cross to start.
If the defender/s win the ball they can look to play to mini-goals or the coach out wide
Progress this as you feel fits your needs. Can go to a 3v3 plus GK, 7v5 plus GK, or into a 11v11.
Coaching Points-
- GK communicate early and often
- keep defenders organized
- Follow the play of the ball as it moves
- Stay Engaged
- Be ready to attack the ball if there's a bad touch or big touch and you can win it.

organization of session -
Warm-Up 5 min depending on the number of GK - Hand-eye coordination with stretching
Depending on the number of GKs either work in pairs or three's
Working GK starts on knees. Non-working GK/s tosses the ball at shoulder height. GK catches the ball one-handed and brings up their leg and plants their foot flat on the ground replicating the K-block technique. Rotate hand and leg. After a couple, switch to a lower toss about arm's length away from GK. The GK catches one-handed and stretches leg and foot out replicating spread save. Switch up the toss so it is not predictable for the GK so they have to react
