Organisation

Pitch size = 25 x 35

3 v 2 attacking overload

X2 Permanent (Blue) defenders to defender Goal 1 (D1 & D2)

X1 Permanent (Red) attacker to attack Goal 1 (A1)

Conditions

  • 2 attacking players enter the field of play with 1 ball.
  • The ball must be passed to the permanent attacker and returned to one of 2 attacking players to begin continue with the attack.
  • D1/ D2 is encouraged to mark A1 tight but no oppose the first pass. Once the first pass is returned D1/ D2 are to defender Goal 1.
  • When the ball is "dead" or an attempt is made on goal the two attackers join the line at the end of the goal they tried to score in and two more players attack from that goal using the same conditions (see screen 2)
  • The will be two permanent (blue) defenders and an attacker for goal 2.
  • Repeat.

Progressions/ Regressions

  • Specified number of passes before a goal can be scored
  • Defenders can counter attack
  • Introducing a third permanent defender to create a 3V3
  • Individual performance related challenges

Coaching Points

  • Defenders closing down and applying pressure to the attacker - Can you put pressure on the ball?
  • Communication - goalkeeper and defenders
  • Observing movement, decision making and body position - can you retreat to hold the attack

Mechanics

Defending

1. Get in Line

2. Pressure on the ball

3. Deceleration

4. Body Position

5. Stay on toes

6. Be Patient

7. Decision

8. Recovery Runs (Movement)

9. Tracking Players

Ensure that maximum tempo is maintained to ensure realism. If the game slow downs the decision might be made to end that attack.
