Screen 1 (10 mins)

Objective: 

To use various save techniques when defending the middle third.

Description:

Working GK will receive a thrown ball at head height and use the W technique. Service will then vary to a stomach height for the cup technique and low ground service for the scoop techniques. 

Coaching Points: 

Ensure set position is used prior to service

Hands to the ball with bend at elbows for W technique

Body weight forward and elbows tucked in for cup technique

Drop body height and collapse the knee with back of hands facing the ground for scoop

Progressions:

Unannounced the service (vary through techniques)

Move to a volley

Ground strike

Moving ball too adjust and remain in middle third.

Regressions:

GK to work from their knees.

Screen 2 (15 mins)

Objective:

To continue defending the middle third whilst increasing realism through ball movement and introducing distribution as secondary focus.

Description:

GK will drop into position to receive the pass from player on the cone. Take a first touch and play a ball across to the opposite goalkeeper, focusing on passing through the channel. Opposite GK will then play the GK on the cone receive the pass and play in the opposite direction.

Coaching Points:

Positive first touch

Set Position

Progressions:

GK1 begins with the ball, rolls it to GK2 who takes a touch to GK3 and receives the ball back before strike to GK1.

GK striking the ball will focus on trying to hit the mannequin for a collapse save.

Regressions:

Ball is rolled or thrown instead of a strike.

Screen 3 (15 mins)

Objective:

To continue defending the middle third from angled strikes in increasingly realistic scenarios.

Description:

GK1 will begin with the ball and roll it out to GK3, who will take a touch into the yellow square before striking on goal. GK2 will then repeat the process to GK4 who will take a touch and strike on GK1. Strike should be focused on scoring in the middle third of the goal. Rotate sides and switch keepers.

Coaching Points:

Positive first touch

Set Position relative to angled strike

Progressions:

GK1 who will roll the ball to GK2 who will bounce the pass back, GK1 will play GK3 who will touch and strike on goal. Reverse.

Regressions:

Reduce distance.

Screen 4 (15 mins)

Objective:

To increase realism and decision making whilst play at the back. Focus remains on middle third strikes.

Description:

Gk1 will begin by playing the ball to GK4, on the first touch, GK3 may engage and defend, GK1 and 4 will then play a 2v1 to create a scoring opportunity. Strikes must be taken from defensive zone and focus on middle third. Once strike or save is made, rolls are reversed, GK1 drops in to goal and GK2 plays possesion with GK3 as GK4 engages as a defender.

Set position relative to angled strike

Progressions:

Reduce the space

Strike may come from middle zone.
