Organisation:
Play 6vs6 in a 27x42 yrds grid with the objective to getting the ball to end teammates (they are not allowed in the grid!).
Coaching points:
*Off the ball
"Drop in"
- One midfielder looks to find space between lines (oppositions midfield and attacking unit).
- Ideally, look at turns and plays forwards or wide if we have a overload.
- Or... occupies a teammate/opens passing lines
"On the shoulder"
-Midfield looks to play on the blindside of the opponent.
- Ideally, opposition marks poorly and he can receive the ball.
- Or... occupies opponents for teammate.
"Beyond"
- Midfield looks to find space between lines (opposition midfield and defensive units).
- Ideally, receives the ball in a dangerous area
- Or... opens space for teammate
*On the ball
"Bounce"
- Midfielder lends possession to teammate.
-Teammate might be under pressureso can not play forwards
- Bounce allows the picture to change.
"Open up"
- Midfield can receive the ball, open and play forwards.
"Miss out"
- Midfielder makes a movement towards the ball, teammate recognises space has been created. Player in possession misses out the closer player and plays higher up the pitch.

Organisation:
Both teams play in a GK-3-3-1 formations (75yrds long and full width). Pitch with central midfield zone to replicate lead in practice. Teams aim to play through midfield zone before scoring. To start players are "locked in" zones.
Key Coaching points:
- Team should lend possession so that they can tease opposition out of shape... then exploit!
- Players should look to empty and fill the areas to create space for themselves, their teammates and the targets players.
- Players should aim to be offline creating width and depth in the midfield.
- Ability to play off 1-2 touch where needed.
- Recognition of when to play forwards and when to keep possession (penetration vs patience) increased realism.
- Eyes off the ball and recognise the picture from emptying and filling
Progressions:
-Encourage full backs to join attack, whilst maintaining balance.
Key questions:
- How does a teammate movement affect yours?
- What are the triggers to play forwards?
- How can you create space for another midfielder?
