SSG (15 mins)

Running with the ball (Small Sided Game)

12 players, 4 vs 4 (4 Yellow / 4 Red) in the central area with 4 floater players (in green).

2 players on the outside and 2 in the central area, all play to support the team in possession. Each team will spend 5 minutes as floaters.

All players in green play one touch football and the target for the yellow and red teams in the area is to run the ball into the opposing teams scoring zone (Red Target Zone 1 / Yellow Target Zone 2). A point is awarded to a team when a player travels with the ball into their attacking zones. Players need to maintain control within the zones for a point to be awarded.

The team in possession needs to create space to try and lose markers, players not in possession need to look to create space for themselves and the players with the ball.

Key Points:

• Players should learn when to run with the ball and when to pass bringing in techniques learnt from previous sessions.

• Players should also recognise when to support and when to run with the ball – once again good control is vital.

• All players should be aware of protecting defensive space when a teammate is travelling with the ball.

PROGRESSION -

Make the field narrower

Devide the zones into 3 seperate scoring zones (2 points awarded for zones on the outside / 1 point for the zone in the inside)

REGRESSION -

Make the playing area bigger (25Mx35M)

Bigger numerical advantage for a team who may be struggling with the topic.

Opposition players are not allowed to tackle the player with the ball for a duration of time (5 Seconds).
