Description

Decision making, transition, organisation and communication session (60 minutes.)

A fast paced session to encourage communication, organisation and decision making within the team.

Quick transitions from attack to defence, and change of directions.

The nature of the games creates competition, lots of touches on the ball and maximises ball in play time.

Screen 1

6 v 3 passing, organisation and communication game (15 mins.)

Divide center circle into quarters and place 1 mini goal in the each quarter.

One team of 3 players are defending the mini goals, moving in the center circle but there cannot be two defenders in any one quarter. Defenders must communicate and move as a team to keep a clean sheet. The 6 (2 x 3) other players are positioned on the outside of the circle and must pass the ball through the circle (minimum of 3 passes) until they find a position to switch play to score on the empty goal.

Coach to time period of defending team, then rotate through all teams, winning team has conceded least amount of goals in the time period.

If the defending team intercepts a pass they will immediately change place with the team who lost possession.

If the ball goes out of play the coach will feed in another ball from outside of the circle.

Progression; reduce touches on the ball in possession, increase minimum passes.

4 v 4 plus neutral organisation game (20 mins.)

Team in possession has two goals to score on (identified by coloured cones or pinnies.)

They have the advantage of the neutral player, they must keep possession with a set number of passes before scoring at any of their two goals. Defending team to organise and protect their goals. If the ball is won in open play by defence they transition to attack with the neutral player/ overload, and attempts to retain possession and score on their two goals.

Coach to play in new ball to defending team if ball out of play, this will continue the theme of quick organisation and transition from defence to attack.

Progression and regression can be achieved enlarging or reducing play area, and increasing or decreasing amount of passes.

4 v 4 = GK, attack and defend on one goal (25 mins.)

Team 1 in possession attacks on goal, goals can only be scored within the 18 yard area. Team 2 defends the goal. If defenders win the ball they must attempt to pass to a team mate who has transitioned from defence into the midfield area beyond the red line marked by flat discs. The defence team 2 now becomes the attacking team and attempts to get back in on goal, with team 1 now defending. The game is all about attack and defence organisation, transitions requires players to communicate and work together.

If attacking team shoots the goal keeper will play to defence to play out. I the ball leaves the field coach will play the ball into to keep the momentum of the game.
