In this session we will be teaching the players about goal scoring by Shooting, working first on the technique of striking the ball t

We will teach the players how to have a positive approach using different surfaces of the foot and angled touches to disguise the shot giving them more tools when in front of goal encouraging a goal-scoring mentality to recognize opportunities on sight.

Contained in the session content are many activities to choose from it is you must not try to deliver all activities, you as the coach to choose the right ones for the groups you are coaching each day on the program based on ability levels

Principle of play Week 5 Innovation/Creativity

Innovation/Creativity – Highlights the creativity and innovation of individuals to create or score individually as well as combining with other players collectively too. Ultimately, individuals that can create opportunity for yourself or your team mates will enable you to have success. Below are some examples of how wide players can individually beat players 1v1 as well as combine with team mates to create opportunities for the team.

This week we will focus on the end product of striking or finishing recognizing the (when & What) as we look to score

MVP points System

The player MVP system is a staple of the program and one we use to set competition from the start of the session to the finish between each individual

The way the system works every player has 5 MVP points to start, Players can win more points by applying themselves to each activity with full commitment trying their hardest to progress, and being awarded points by the coach

Players can also win points during each activity by scoring the most points for that activity and for that they will pick up 2 MVP points from the coach.

We also use the point system to reinforce good standards like staying in bounds, not bumping into other players, and good behavior. the player can lose their points when these standards are not met. Try to use it as a motivator, not a punishment.

Once the players get used to this system they will become more responsible for their own development

Activity

  • Have 4 teams 1 in each corner
  • The players will need to dribble into the middle square take a prep touch out and shoot at the opposite corners goal-they will then collect their ball and move to the back of the line of the goal they shot in.

Finishing techniques (10 mins)

Organization:

10x20 grid set up multiple grids depending on numbers

2x tall cones
groups of 4-6
1ball per player but have spares at the side
Instructions:
1.players will dribble up to the blue cone triangle and finish into thepugs using the technique of coaches choice
2.after they finish they will then become the ball collector behindthe goal and the previous ball collector can collect the finishersball and head to the back of the line.

Coaching Points

  • Finish 1(Messi, Heath). Using the outside of the foot to take a touch the opposite side of the goal before using the inside to finish across the goal to the opposite side
  • Finish 2 (M'bappe, Press). using inside foot opening the hips using the same foot on the same side as the pug your finishing in. egright foot into the right pug
  • Finish 3(Ronaldo, Morgan) using a feint and quick touch before using the instep to drill the ball low and hard into the corner sameside as the touch
  • Angle of approach

Animation 3 (10 mins)

Organization

  • 20 x20 yard grid
  • two teams attacker vs defenders as shown
Instructions
  • Game starts with a pass into to attackers from the defender. 
  • As ball is played thedefender must close the space
  • Attacking team must combine to score for a point .if the defendersteels they can transition to score in the opposite goal.
  • GK's (If applicable to your group)
  • If using keepers have the defender serve the ball into the oppositekeeper to start the attack. once the ball has been given to anattacker the keeper cant get it back until the coach allows it in laterrounds .
Coaching Points
  • Be creative and use ball mastery skills to beat the defender
  • Acceleration after skill or turn to beat the defender
  • Execution & timing off combination (play at Speed)
  • Can the #9 stay high & play off the shoulder of the defender
  • 10 to provide creativity & service and stay deep until moment of penetration

  • If there is space in front of the player with ball encourage the player to dribble into the space. If their team mate is in a better position to score encourage player to pass to their team mate

Progression

  • The ball will now start at one of the wide areas from a throw in combining the topic with the restart and soccer side work trying first toreceive out of the air then combine.
