Description:
Players push pass the ball through the following pattern ending with a shot at goal.
Players start on yellow cones. Put yellow cones down to designate starting points.
Coaching points:
- Push the ball by starting with the stick off the ball and driving the stick through the ball. WHY? This technique is easier to do on the run.
- Attempt to pick the ball up dynamically, with your first touch taking the ball where you want to go next. WHY? Being able to pick up the ball dynamically is crucial to evading pressure.

Description:
Small pitch.
Each team stands beside their goal, off the pitch, and numbers themselves.
The coach calls numbers out and those players run onto the pitch. The coach, however, will call a set from one team and then a set from the other, giving one team an overload i.e. "1, 2, 3 from team one and 3 from team two".
Bias the overload towards being successful i.e. give them 2 or more player advantage.
Coaching points:
- Be outside the defenders reach and create passing angles. WHY? If not, the defender can intercept the pass, and we will lose the ball.
- Know your next action. WHY? This helps you play quickly before defenders come.
What does good look like?
- Players knowing what they are going to do next
- Players making an effort to lead outside the reach of the defender

Passing vs Dribbling Race (15 mins)
Description:
One team slap hit the ball continuously in a pattern. They get a point every time they get the ball all the way along the sequence to a player at the end.
The challenge is to pass the ball end to end as many times as possible, in the time it takes the other team to dribble through the obstacle course. The players dribbling through the obstacle course can only go when their team mate finishes the course and sits down.
Coaching points: Passing
- Why slap the ball: the slap is a passing skill used to cover more distance than the push.
- Body: Lunge with left leg leading
- Stick: Flat. Tip of the stick stays up throughout whole movement. The stick makes a circle around the left foot.
- Grip: Hand at top of stick
- Action: By breaking your wrists the stick is moved round the body in a semi circle. Stick stays on floor in backswing.
What does good look like?

- Accurate
Coaching points: Dribbling- Encourage them to mix up between 2D and 3D skills
