Passing Weight
- Here players are working on the weight of their passes. Players are passing back and forth between their partner.
- The pass must go through the gates and to their partners feet.
- Go for 90s and switch partners
Key Points:
- Angle of approach is approximately 45 degrees.
- Standing foot should point towards the target with a bend at the hip and knee.
- Ball is struck with the ‘sweet spot’ (top of the instep), with the toes pointing down and away from the body.
- The instep pushes through the ball just below the center spot to keep the ball straight and generate backspin.
- The follow-through is short, with the striking foot often whipping around to end up in front of the kicking foot due to the quick movement of the hips from an open to closed position.
Running Time: 5 Minutes

First Time Pass
- Here players are working on first times passes. Players are passing back and forth between their partner.
- The pass must go through the centre gates and to their partners feet
- Go for 90s and switch partners
Key Points:
- Communicate with your teammate so they expect the pass.
- Get your body in line with the ball before it comes to you so you can use a regular inside or outside of the foot touch to move the ball on.
- Take the speed off the incoming pass by cushioning the ball a little as you lay it off to your teammate.
- Strike the center of the ball so it doesn’t pop up in the air.
- No follow through.
- Be on your toes
