To improve build up play in the defensive half of the field. We want to work on utilizing the space and time given to us by the opponents in order to get into the opponents half.

Objective: Work on passing rhythm. Use every part of the players foot to pass and dribble the ball.
Set up: As shown, set up a grid for 8 players.
Instructions: Player(s) A start with the ball. Players pass and move in the order shown (A-B-C-D). After a while make it competitive by timing them, limiting their touches or have them compete against another group.
Key words: Open up, use your back foot, take a touch if needed
Guided Questions: 1. Where should I look to play the ball? 2.Why play in one touch? 3. What can we do with the ball if our teammate isnt ready?
Answers: 1. Always look to play the way your facing. 2. In order to get used to playing the ball quickly. 3. Keep your head up and hold the ball until you are certain your teammate is ready, or is calling for it.

Objective: Coach the defenders (RED) to create problems for the attackers by knowing when to press, getting compact and staying compact.
Set up: As shown, play 1-3-3-1 (blue) vs 0-0-4-2 (red). Blue plays to the bumper on the end-line and red plays to the big goal.
Instructions: Play a game with regular rules. Start with 10 balls being played only from the blue keeper.. After the the 10 reps, play from where the ball goes out. Blue scores by playing the ball to the target player. Red can score on the big goal.
Key words: Get/stay compact, pressure, cover and work together. Close passing lanes.
Guided Questions: 1. Who pressures the ball and why? 2. Why do we move together to defend? 3. How can we prevent penetrating passes?
Answers: 1. The defender closest to the ball, to prevent the player on the ball from moving it forward. 2. To stay compact and deny/close any passing lanes. 3. Close passing lanes and read work on good defensive positioning.

Objective: To use what we learned in real game situations
Set up: Set up a full 11v11 game, Blue team plays 1-4-3-3 and the Red team plays a 1-4-4-2
Instructions: Using regular rules, play a game with minimal coaching.
Key words: Move the ball up the field, get to space to receive a pass, find the opening & play through it, score
Guided Questions: 1. How can you determine a player's mindset as they arrive to practice? What tells you that players are beginning to focus on training?
Answers: 1. Ask a player questions about their day and listen to their answers. Start to develop rapport with them. 2. Players are working together in the warm up, trying to direct teammates and not goofing around.

Dynamic Warm up (10 mins)
Objective: Warm up and prepare the players for the session
Set up: As shown, use as many stations as needed to minimize lines.
Instructions: Without a ball, have the players go through the four stations in the rotation as shown. When ready, add balls at the line of cones (zig zag area) only and place a player at each station. A and B time their runs, and combine for a give and go. The ball then goes from A to C, who plays to D and the rotation restarts.
Key words: Open up, small touches, take a touch in the direction that you're going
Guided Questions: 1. Why do we stretch? 2. What can I do if I'm still tight after warming up? What foot do you pass with?
Answers: 1.To improve our elasticity and prevent injuries. 2. Stretch at home daily. 3. The one that allows you to play the ball naturally in one touch.
