Objectives: How we build in a 4-3-3 following the MCFC game model. How do we get success in P1 and P2 against different opposition set ups.TEAM SHAPES:IP 1-4-3-3 (1+2 MF) #10s OP 1-4-3-3 (2+1MF) #6s
Learning Outcomes
- Building with a backline of 4.
- Creating space in-between and in behind opposition units to get up the pitch from Phase 1 to Phase 2.
- How to backline use the GK in the build phase to create an overload.
- Opportunities to switch in the build phase if opposition has good distances in-between and in behind.
- Support options underneath the ball as it progress into Phase 2 (Create).
- Patterns of play to pull the opposition.
- 3 Pinning the backline to create space in-between units for IP players to receive.
- Creating overloads in areas of the pitch, when to play the spare player.
- Individual Technical Brilliance on the pitch to get good ball manipulation as a team.
- Changing the rhythm of the ball to get the IP outcomes of pulling the opposition.
- As the ball travels up the pitch, what does the IP team do? Kill space in case of transition. Opportunities to step back to attack and when to squeeze.
Opposition Problems:Show outside on the press. Cut passing lanes off whilst pressing. Protect central areas of the pitch.
Block 1: 4-3-3 Press with one #9. 7 and 11 tight to 5 and 2. Man mark Centrally.
Block 2: 4-3-3 Press with one #9. 7 and 11 distances to screen IP 11 and 7. How this affects if CB travels or releases or opportunity to switch through GK?
Block 3: 4-4-2 Mid block and protecting areas not players. IP opportunity to switch the play.
Key Coaching Points:
Pattern 1- Create Phase
Start from GK play into CB- Encourage CB to step in with ball and take space. As ball travels up the pitch backline step up to kill space on turn over. Combing and creating overloads in wide areas. If opposition are man marking in central areas - encourage to stay away to create space in the 2 and 4 lanes. This will allow for combinations of up back and through. Understanding that the support needs to be faster than the press for success from MF or FB support when ball goes out wide.
MCFC Language and terminology - Entice to Slice.
In both block 1 and 2: If no opportunity to play forward because of OP set up. Opportunity to come back and start again. GK encourage as another CB and play in Phase 1.
Phase 2 - Create Phase
10s to stay away to create space for CB or FB to carry. Playing the split pass between opposition FB and CB. Movement and triggers from the 9 to receive.
When we hit the top line:
Squeeze up the pitch to kill the space in behind and in-between in transition moments.
When to squeeze up the pitch and when to support underneath the ball. The opposition to support underneath creates a bigger distance for pressing team.
