Session organisation:
This specific practice will work on the Welsh way principle of breaking lines. The aim of the session is for the green team to find gaps between the red teams defensive lines and pass through them. The green team are aiming to score in the big goal and should the red team gain possession, they are aiming to score in either of the 3 mini goals on the halfway line, which represent their wingers and striker.
The ball will begin with the green central defender and play will go live on their touch. Should the ball go out on either side, a throw in should be awarded and if the ball goes out behind any of the goals, play will resume from the green centre back as quickly as possible. Placing emphasis on both teams to get back into position as soon as possible.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
- Award an extra point for the green team should they score from a linebreaking pass
- Award an extra point if the red team score in one of the mini goals 5 seconds after gaining possession of the ball (coach will countdown) to encourage fast breaks.
Intervention strategy (MD -2):
- Walkthrough for part solved puzzle
- Freeze-coaching
- Conditions to moderate response
Technical points:
- Firm forward passes with the inside of foot
- Receive on the back foot between the lines in order to turn and play forward
- Make eye contact with receiver before playing a pass between the lines in order to telegraph their run

Solution - Make off the ball runs into wide channels in behind the lines
