Ball Mastery10 mins

Organization:

All players in pairs moving freely inside of area approx. 12x15yards.

Instructions:

Pairs pass and move around the area, aiming to vary number of touches on the ball, passing types etc. After minimum 4 passes, either player can choose to stop the ball and protect it. If attacking player can then keep the ball for "7 mississipi", 1 point is gained and a bonus point can be gained if they score in the opponents goal. If their opponent can touch the ball with the sole of their foot, 1 point is gained and a bonus point can be gained by winning the ball and scoring in the opposition goal.

Skill Development15 mins

Organization:

- 2 squares (1 red & 1 blue) approx. 8x8 yards each.

- Players paired up, 1 of which starts with a ball.

Instructions:

- 30 second game with 15 seconds break.

- First to 3 wins across all players.

- Coach should then rotate players to play against new opponent.

Coaching Points/Questions:

- How can you make it difficult for your opponent to take the ball? (ball, body, player - BBP)

- What body shape will make it more challenging for your opponent to take the ball? (knees bent, arm out, strong base)

Regressions/Progressions:

- Defender can only use sole of their foot to touch the ball.

- Promotion/Relegation

Individual & Group Tactics15 mins

Organization:

3 players set up as shown across 2 fields. Approx. 8x10 middle area with 2 yard zone on one end line (total 12x8). Goals set up as shown.

Instructions:

- Attacker 1 plays into attacker 2 who can choose to play 1v1 to goal, or, play back and have attacker 1 join in, creating 2v1. 2nd attacker can only join in after recovery run around goal

- 1v1 goal = 2 points.

- 2v1 goal = 1 point.

- Defender wins the ball and plays to either mini goal for 2 points.

- What if - Defenders shot is blocked by Attacker 1? Game keeps moving as above.

Coaching Points/Questions:

- Why would you protect the ball? (wait for support)

- How can you protect the ball in order to wait for support? (BBP, body shape/stance)

- What should your movement look like after setting the ball for your supporting team mate? (peel away/run in behind)

Regressions/Progressions:

P: Add half way line for defender - acts as an offside line and also double points if ball is won above the line before scoring.

Game20 mins

Organization:

- 14x24 yards area with goal on either end.

- 90 second games. 30 seconds rest. 3 games before players switch teams

Note: Easy way to switch teams - each player has a number. 123 play together first set of games, 246 play together second round etc.

Instructions:

- 3v3 scrimmage.

- When ball leaves area, coach immediately plays new ball in to whichever player is ready first.

- Players keep score (3 points for win, 1 for tie etc.)

- Reinforce prior coaching points.

- Coach principles of play.
