Main activity (10 mins)

Organization: Large grid, two gates wide with one in the center a bit forward from the green gates.

Instructions:

* Players start with coaches command "GO" they both run up and through the green gate going from the outside in towards the yellow gate.

* first player through the yellow gate is the attacker and is the player coach passes to. They then must hold up the ball and try to score in either green gate.

* Switch lines every time.

Coaching Points:

* Quick awareness to recoginze you wont win the ball and immediatley put the ball carrier under pressure to force a mistake and take the ball back

* Do not allow defender to turn and face you, if you do, expect them to try and get you off balance.

* Keep their heads down and under constant, immediate pressure.

Progressions:

* Pass it to different sides forcing different scenairos for attackers

* Give them a time limit to score

*Regression: Make space wider

M-Town Tag / 1v1 (10 mins)

Organization: 20x20 grid with two, two colored gates on other sides of the teams. Teams are in the corners

Instructions:

* Designate an attacking team/defending team.

* Once established, the attacking team can go whenever they want. On their first step forward the defender can advance and try to tag them before they get through either of their colored gates.

* First team to 8 or some number, then switch roles.

Coaching Points:

* What are the three ways to beat a defender again? "Speed, Fake, Change direction coach." -okay, do you see space here? "not really coach" -so is speed all THAT reliable? "no coach" -Then what are our options? "fake and change direction" - very good, now can you only do one or the other? or can you combine the two many different times? "Combine them!" -brilliant, show me what you can do.

* Balance to be able to shift our momentum quickly

* Ability to suck in the defender and take them where you want

* Ability to disguise what you want to do

Progressions:

* Add a ball to the attackers, defenders try to win it and get their gates. Same coaching points.

Break the Line (15 mins)

Organization: Same grid as the Turning Practice but just take up a couple cones to make it simple.

Instructions:

* Blue plays against red first here.

* Play starts with eye contact and when the attacker first moves forward the defender can go and try to tag the attacker.

* Attacker (blue) has to try to get across any red cone line without getting tagged.

* After getting to a points goal have the teams sitch roles. Now red has to try to get across the blue cone line without getting tagged.

Progression Instructions:

* Add a ball to the attackers and two mini goals then demonstrate how you can use the various turns we learned earlier to beat your defender in these situations.

* If defender wins it they must dribble across the oppositions color cone line.

Coaching Points:

* Recognition of defenders speed and body shape.

* Think what you want to do before you even go.

* Three ways to beat a defender:

-1. Speed- Can you simply out run them?

-2. Fake/Juke- Can you draw them in, unbalance them, and continue forward at speed?

-3. Change direction/Pass- Can you draw them in, and use their momentum *KEYWORD* to unbalance them by attacking their backside at speed.

* After all that, can we disguise our intentions?

Progressions:

* Add a ball to the attackers with two mini goals. Defender must try to win the ball back and dribble across opponents color cone line.
