Drill: 3v3 defending - 15 minutes
Set up: 2 25x35 field with mini goals set up like shown for 3 teams, set up another for other 3 teams
- 1 team will rest at a time for each field
Play:
- play 3v3 across the zones going at goal
- max 2 attackers or 2 defenders in each zone at a time
Progression:
- rotate teams on every 3 minutes
- remove zones for last 5 minutes
Coaching Points:
- 1st defender close down quickly, pressure the ball, slow down or delay the attacker
- 2nd defender provide support to potentially double or step if 1st defender gets beat, position to intercept pass or block shot
- 3rd defender provide weak side support and prepare to step in if others get beat or they switch point of attack
- communication, timing, decision making, quick transitions

Drill: High press game - 15 minutes
Set up: 3 gates with two cones - center half, high width, middle
- 8v9 with goalies switching at main goal every 3 minutes
- cones extending from the 18 to narrow the field of play
Play:
- ball starts with the goalie and offense is trying to build out the back and get the ball through one of the three gates
- defense is applying high pressure and keeping opposition out of prime position near the gates
- 3 scoring gates for offense to dribble through
- defense scoring on main goal after regaining possession
Progression:
- move gates to opposite side of the field
- add neutral
Coaching Points:
- organization, positioning, communication about defending gates
- pressing should ensure the predictability of passes for opposing team
- during press, consider footwork and where to push the player

Drill: Pressing in final third - 20 min
Set up: half field w/ 2 mini goals at half
- 9v9 w/ goalies switching at main goal every 3 minutes
Play:
- ball starts with goalie
- offense is trying to score on the two mini goals
- defense is focused on a high press and regaining possession within 5 passes at going at the main goal
Progression:
- if defense is struggling to gain possession, switch so they have a number advantage
Coaching Points:
- communication and shifting with the ball
- positioning to apply pressure

Drill: 10v10 scrimmage w/ focus on high press - 10 minutes
Set up: full field w/ 2 goals, 10 on each team including goalies
Play:
- teams will be challenged to high press for the scrimmage and try to regain possession before 5 passes are completed by the defensive team each time it's played from the keeper
Progression:
- touch max
- shorten the field
Coaching Points:
- high levels of communication and organization
- shift as a unit and push offense to where your teams numbers are

Drill: Warm up - rondo and dynamic stretching - 15 min
Set up: 20x20 grid per group
- 3 groups of 7 (coach jump in if needed) with 1 ball and 2 pinnies
- 5 players on the outside with 2 defenders in the middle holding a pinnie
Play:
- players on outside try to keep it away from the defenders in the middle
- defending players stay in for 2 minutes
- after 2 minutes, everyone does 2 dynamic stretches for 30 seconds each (high kick, open the gate, close the gate, scoops, quad stretch, bounds, figure 4, groin stretch)
- rotate defenders and repeat for 4 rounds (1 player will repeat defense)
Progression:
- start with unlimited touches
- 2 touch, 1 touch
Coaching Points:
- first defender quick press and force one direction, second defender read body positioning and step in
- communication as defenders (push left, I got, step)
- movement off the ball to supporting angles
- front foot wins ball
- limit the split as a second defender
- push to supported side
