Technical Keeping the ball using 1-2s, pass and move and different ranges |
|
Tactical Tatical elements of how to use a 1-2 to beat a defender and playing the way you're facing to keep possession. |
|
Physical Prepare the body for physical activity and look to get fitness and endurance levels up. |
|
Psychological Breaking down combinations and play into smaller steps to create an end result and analysing the situation to make a decision (e.g. the 1-2s in the triangle and playing the way you're facing) |

Player B should position themselves whereby they create an angle to avoid their passes hitting the cones.
In part 1, Player A plays a 1-2 with B before A dribbles through the first gate. Then, play a second 1-2 in the middle of the grid then dribble through the second gate. Repeat this pattern back and forth for desired time or number of circuits before swapping roles.
In part 2, A passes the ball to B before sprinting through the gate and receiving the ball back - this should be treated like playing a 1-2 to beat a defender, with the sprint being a sprint in behind them.
Once A has the ball back, return it again to B, spring through the second gate and finish the 1-2.

Part 1 is a simple pass and move in a triangle. The shape can be modified, but there must be one more player than cone as otherwise once Player A moves to follow their pass, the first station will have nobody to receive a pass.
Pass, follow the pass.
Part 2 is as above except this time a 1-2 is thrown in. A passes to B who follows the pass, but receives the ball back from B halfway between the two cones. B then starts to move towards C and gets the ball back from A at the half way point. This pattern then continues with all other players.

Longer range passing, starting 12 yards apart, building up to 20, 25 or more eventually using the laces to drill the passes across rather than weighted with the inside of the foot.
Coaching points:
- Body shape, foot placement
- Weight/accuracy of pass
- One/two touch to get it under control and out of feet

4 corners of a square, each with more than one player waiting behind it.1 ball.
All 4 players run to diagonally opposite cone at the same time.Ball carrier does not have to pass the ball, likewise not every player has to touch the ball.
Whoever has the ball should only pass to someone within their eye line and not somebody who has run beyond them or has their back to the ball.
To start with, this could be done at walking pace with the players holding and throwing the ball. As they get to grips with the practice, move the pace up and pass with feet.
The object of this is to encourage holding the ball if not obvious, sensible pass is on and not just guessing where somebody is or passing to somebody that's not within a player's eye line meaning they'd have to quickly adjust their body position.
To really advance it, a defender could be added into the middle who doesn't move, but just tries to intercept close by passes. This makes it a bit harder and will further emphasise the need to make sensible passes so that ball isn't given to the opposition.

Back to the figure 8s, shuttle runs and then end with a cool down to add an extra bit of fitness training in ready for the new season.
It's important to stretch out and do the light warm up/cool down activities last this time to avoid injury.

- Starting at first cone, move to the end cone completing each of the below exercises, followed by a gentle jog back to the start before doing the next:
- Knees up
- Heel flicks (to bums)
- Side steps
- Open gates
- Close gates
- Headers
- Quick feet (in & out of each cone)
- Slalom
Stretch out key muscles ready for more intense physical activity
2) Figure 8
HIIT running. Gentle jog the short sides, sprint the diagonals. 1 full figure of 8 = 1 circuit.
3 circuits.
3) Shuttle runs
Cones placed 6, 12, 18 and 25 yards from starting point. Shuttle runs between all 4.
