Transition Rondo
Play starts with a 6v4 overload for one team in one half of the pitch. The 6 reds must keep possession for minimum number of passes to score a point.
The 4 blue attempt to win the ball back and play into the neutral keeper for a point, or the other half where they have numerical advantage.
Once transition occurs, 2 blue and 2 red move into the other half to keep possession. Out of possession team cannot touch the ball until in possession secure it
Coaching Points:
- Defensive transition - 6 must be ready and positioned to closed down (counter press) if they lose possession
- Out of possession - defend the centre (not played through) & press aggressively on cues (bad touch, slow pass, facing backwards, on weaker foot)
- In possession - ball speed, find spare player, movement into/to create space
- Attacking transition - direct, pick the right pass
- Out of possession 4 in other half - communicating to pressing 4 about where and when to press
Progression:
1. Mini goals added > pressing 4 can score in mini goals > then transition into possession
2. Defending team active instant on transition
