4 Rondos

5 groups of 3 players. Each group gets there own square, one group will be in the middle with all the balls.

The defending team (team in the middle) will play one ball into a square, and 1 defender will enter the square. The team in possession will play 3v1, attempting to make 5 passes without losing the ball. If the 5 passes are completed, they can play the ball into a new square. Once this is done, the team that just passed the ball can rest, and a new defender enters the square that the ball was just played. This is done till the defender gains possession or the ball exits the square before the team can reach 5 passes. If the team in possession losses the ball or the defender wins it, the defending team and the team who lost possession switch places.

If it becomes too easy for the teams in possession to reach 5 passes; increase the passes required to get it out of the square, make the squares smaller, or limit the amount of touches players can take.

Outcomes:

- Speed of play

- High work rate from the defender

- Keeping possession of the ball

Constructivist Corner Defending

8 attackers vs 8 defenders.

The attackers can set up however they like.

For the first ~10 corners, the defending team can set up however they like. Once this has happened, stop the play and bring in the defending team. Ask them what they are seeing, and how they think it can be improved. Now give them a minute to think up a way to better defend corners. Let them set up again and do another ~10 corners.

Outcomes:

- Get players to problem solve defending corners (as we've conceded too many set piece goals lately)

- Usually is no players in the danger area (top of the 6 yard box), maybe they should have some players play zonal

Possession with 4 Corners

6 v 6 in the large grid. With 2 players from each team in opposite corners.

Possession in the large grid, the goal is to get from one corner with the teammate in it to the other. If a player passes the ball into the corner, that player is now replacing the player in the corner, and the player in the corner enters the larger area. No defender can enter the corner areas.

If the ball goes out of play, the ball is played in to the team who didn't kick the ball out of play.

If the players are taking too much time in the corners, limit the amount of touches they have or limit the amount of time the player can stay in that area.

Progression:

- Players in the corner areas must take the ball outside of the zone within their first 2 touches to keep possession. If this doesn't happen, that team losses possession.

Outcomes:

- Switch the play (play the ball to areas that are unoccupied by defenders)

- Can we sometimes play direct (instead of always playing the short ball, it a longer one)

- Once we win the ball, make sure the first 2 passes are completed

SSG with Corners

Small Sided Game: Width of the 18 yard box, length from endline to halfway.

8v8 including the keepers.

Throwins if the ball goes out of play.

Corners can occur.

No offsides.

At random points of the game, call for one team to take a corner from the full width of the field, and see how the teams defend. See if what they learned from the corners at the beginning of the practice has been retained.

Outcomes:

- Defending corners have been improved, and we are no longer conceding from them.

- High Intensity, people closing down the ball carrier quickly

- Players taking shots from outside the box, instead of trying to pass it into the net
