Ball Mastery (10 mins)

On Arrival:

SSG's (2v2 / 3v3) - then into ball mastery on the session begin time.

Organization:

Approx. 15x15yds area. 1 ball per player.

Instructions:

On coach's command, all players must attempt to dribble in between any two other players as many times as possible.

Keep count - play for 30-60 seconds each round.

Coaching Points:

Control first, then quickness.

Small touches when space is limited, bigger touches when space is available to get through gaps quickly.

Head up after every touch.

Skill Development (15 mins)

Organization:

3 channels.

One team at one endline with one player in each channel.

Other team at opposite endline with one player in each channel.

Soccer balls start with attacking team (red).

Instructions:

Red starts as attacking team, black starts defending.

Red1 dribbles ball into channel, Black1, 2 and 3 come out to defend.

Red player can dribble into any channel.

Black players are restricted to their channels.

1 point if Red can dribble across halfline.

1 additional point if Red can stop ball on opposite endline.

If any black defender wins it, they can get a point by dribbling to their opposite endline.

*Note: Once possession changes e.g. if Black1 wins the ball, Black2 and 3 would retreat off the field to their endlines and Red2 and 3 would come out to defend if Black1 dribbles into their channels. Red1 would have to recover to keep Black1 from scoring in their channel.

Play for time then allow Black to start as attackers.

Make sure extra players rotate in/out any time a player gets to the endline or the ball goes out of play.

Coaching Points:

Drive at defender with speed.

Commit defender to center to maintain 2 options to attack.

Weight of touch (Bigger touch to entice defender to commit vs smaller touch to maintain close control).

Moves with pressure from the front.

Cut back across defender once you've beat them to prevent recovery and keep ball from going into other channels/defenders.

Regressions:

Both attackers and defenders have a ball. Defender can only stop attacker by hittng the attacker's ball with their own ball. If Black1 hits Red1's ball, Black1 gets to restart with the ball and red is defending.

Progressions:

All players have soccer balls in each channel. Possession determined as normal game rules e.g. if black scores ON ENDLINE (play continues if point is scored by crossing halfine), red starts with the ball. If ball goes out of bounds off red, black starts with the ball. To ensure continuous play, the player in the channel that is the next # up from where the ball went out will start play (1-->2-->3-->1, etc.) E.g. If Red1 dribbles out of bounds, that is Black2's cue to start next attack. If Red2 scores ON ENDLINE (play continues if point is scored by crossing halfline) in Black3's channel, that is Black1's cue to start next attack.

Individual/Group Tactics (15 mins)

Organization:

Regular game with 3 zones.

Instructions:

Goal from defensive zone = 1 point

Goal from middle zone = 2 points

Goal from attacking zone = 3 points

Coaching Points:

(See previous)

Look to go forward whenever possible.

Regressions:

Players can only steal the ball from one player on the other team.

Progressions:

If you dribble from middle zone to attacking zone and score it's worth double - 6 points.

(Versus if you're standing already in the attacking zone, receive a pass and score - only worth 3 points).
