SSG defending the lines

area 30x30 or as coach needs

cones splitting the pitch into thirds

spare balls by goals

teams 1GK, 3DEFS, 2MID, 1ATT

duration 15mins

SSG designed to minimise chances created by blocking the lines of attack.

Ask attacking team to play high and wide at a fast pace, trying to create spaces between the lines concentrating on passing mechanics and wieght of pass

Ask the defending team to stay narrow and compact to stop any spaces from being created

Can the defending put pressure on the attacking quickly forcing them backwards or out wide using the touchline as an extra defender,

Can a extra defender help by closing down the space left available when someone is pressing to cut off the passing lines going forward

Ask the midfield to drop deeper to minimise any space central for the attackers to play through

When the defending team intercept a ball how quickly can they transisstion into attack creating a goal scoring chance by playing the pass high and wide at pace ( concentrate on passing mechanics and wieght of pass).

Allow players to leave their zones playing more freely

Add extra defender to minimise chances created
