formation
Reds - GK-4-2-1-1 (Gk-4-2-3-1) greens Gk-1-5-2 (gk-3-5-2)
conditions If green team score from a crossing situation = 3 goals. I reds win ball back they have 10 seconds to score a goal = 2
Block 1 (0-4)Green team getting the ball into wide areas early
solution. when ball is travelling to wide player, green FB should anticipate to apply pressure early, look to force wide or back and look to block crosses. GK should position correctly for a cross and commuicate positioning with central players to protect the middle zone
What if FB is unable to stop the cross.
solution GK should make the correct decision to either come and deal with the cross (punch/deflect/catch?)or stay and look to protect the goal with a save.
1 minute interval - terminal coaching to re affirm coaching points.
Block 2 (5-9) Block problem Green team look to score from central area through balls = 3 goals. green 8 and green 6look to to split wider to recieve the ball and play through balls into the area for forward players.
Solution GK to commucate with defenders to stay narrow and protect the middle. Nearest CM to apply pressure and look to force wide or back. 4 defenders to have correct distances at all times to limit through balls into the box and force into wide areas.
What if Greens are able to play a through ball into the box
Solution Red GK should have a positive start position on front foot and look to anticipate through ball to look to get there first before striker to protect the area. if GK cannot get to ball first then GK should stand and react to look to make a save.
1 minute rest terminal coaching
Block 3 problem Green team encouraged to score from outside of the box.
Solution. Red Midfielders recognise player bodyshape and look to apply pressure on the ball as soon a green player is about to shoot and block shots.
What if Green midfielder gets space to shoot.
Solution GK Should communicate to defenders to stay big and protect the goal. GK Should look to take up a position to save a long range shot. Not too high so that gk has time to move feet and protect the goal.

Specicic Practice (20 mins)
Objective For possesion team (red) to successfully defend the final third by protecting the middle, forcing play wide and stopping box entrys and crosses. look then to retrieve possesion and switch balls behind either lcb or rcb
Objective green utilise width and prepare to retreat to areas to protect the switch ball behind the rcb or lcb regroup and look at the counter attack
Area Half a pitch, wide areas tapered off with mini goals for targets
Timings 2 x 4 minute blocks with 1 minute rest.
Players/Formation
red GK- 4-2 (GK-4-2-3-1) green 1-5-2 (GK-3-5-2)
Conditions Play starts with assistant coach on halfway line who serves a ball into green team. Play can also start in random places to create chaos. Green team are looking to score. If goal scored in block 1 from a cross = 2goals. If goal scored in Block 2 from through ball = 2 goals. If red win ball they can score in a mini goal with 8 seconds.
Block 1 problem. (0-4minutes) Greens wingers are encouraged to get the ball high and wide and score from a crossing position
solution. Red CMs stay compact to protect the middle, as ball is travelling wide GK shoud comuumnicate with FB or nearest player to apply pressure and stop the cross early and not allow ball into the box. GK should also communicate with CBs to protect the middle incase of cross.
What if the wide full back beats the full back and enters the box
solutiuon Gk should change position to set up for a shot and choose correct decision to save (Parry/block)
Coaching detail
GK communication to FB to stop cross
FB body position so they dont get beat easily
CBs position in case a cross comes in (near post/central)
GKs positioning incase of cross (45 degree body shape/ more central of goal/ look imposing)
Coaching position behind GK for Concurrent coaching and to see what GK sees.
Block 2 Problem (5-9 minutes) Green 8,6 encouraged to get on the ball in half space and play a through ball to striker or wide players running into the box
Solution GK to communicate to defenders to stay narrow and block box entries. FBs keep small distances between CBs and look to intercept straight balls or force play down the sides. GK should anticipate through ball for 1v1 situation
What if greens play ball down the side for crossing situation
Solution Reds CBs should protect the near post and centre area. CMs should track runners and GK should move position to near post to potentially cut out the cross.
Coaching detail. Communication for GK to defenders to force wide or block shots/crosses. GK communication to defenders to get in correct positions to deal with crossing situation.
Gk to be on front foot in build up play to anticipate through ball or cross to prevent a shot.
