Principle & Phase Focus:
In Possession (IP) - Keep Phase - We must retain possession of the ball. Highly Skilled Action: Passing.
Out of Possession (OOP) - Deny Phase - Stop their go forward by denying time and space. Highly Skilled Action: Intercepting.

Coaching points for passing:
Focus on the push pass as much as possible, keeping STICK ON BALL. We want to avoid players taking their stick off the ball when passing on the move in a game.
Pass FOREHAND to FOREHAND.
To pass: Knees bent, low body position, flat stick, sideways body position to pass.
To receive: At least two touches - control and pass. Don't be tempted to bat the ball back, it's not tennis!
Reminder of overall IP and OOP principles:
IP: The best option to go forward and score.
OOP: The best option to stop their go forward and win the ball back.

VARIATION:
The player receiving the ball has to return the ball immediately into the path of their partner who is running to the unoccupied goal. After 10 passes, both players change roles.

Moving the Ball - Passing & Receiving
Focus on different ways to pass and receive.
x20 of each pass with a partner.
1. 5m apart. Fast push pass. Two touch - receive with control and pass. Knees bent, low body position, flat stick, sideways body position to pass.
2. 10m apart. Push pass, medium pace. First touch carries the ball to the left, drag to the right, pass back to partner.
3. 20m apart. Player receiving moves behind the cone to start. Push or slap pass, medium pace. As the ball is passed, the receiver sprints forward to receive and carry forward with their first touch. Allow the receiver to reset behind the cone after each turn. Switch places every 5 passes.
4. Bouncing ball. Not lifted above shin height. Make sure the player passing has their stick on the ball to keep the pass under control. To receive, upright stick.
5. Passing off left foot. Passing on the move, alongside your partner, moving up the pitch. Pass off the left foot.
6. Passing off right foot. Passing on the move, alongside your partner, moving up the pitch. Pass off the right foot.
