Phase 3 (5-10 Minutes) Neural Preparation

- Important to achieve maximal effort in short spell

- Gradually increase efforts

Physical Literacy (15 mins)

Activity: 9 Ball Relay

Equipment: 9 Balls, Bibs, Cones, 4 equal teams - each team picks a country name

Organization: Game can be played in a 15x15 area

Objective: The objective of the game is to be the first team with 3 balls in your corner

Implementation:

- The first player from each team performs a skill (i.e. hopping on 2 feet, hopping on one foot, running in and out of the cones etc.) as they go through the cones. The first player takes a ball from the middle with their hands and runs back to their corner. As they approach the corner they must high five the next player in line. After the high five the next player goes and performs the skill through the cones and can take a ball from the middle or they can steal a ball from one of the other teams.

- If a player comes to steal a ball the team can't block them

- Only one player at a time is allowed out of the corner at once - if more than one player is out then the coach sends the extra player back

- Play a few rounds - the first team to win 3 or 5 games is the overall champion

Progression:

- The first player in line does a front roll before performing the skill in between the cones

- Feet/Dribble - instead of using their hands the players must dribble the ball - back to their corner or from corner to corner

Coaching Points:

- Watch that players are doing the technique(s) properly

- Team mates should communicate and look to see what the other teams are doing and determine which team it might be most appropriate to steal from.

Equipment:

- Balls, Bibs, Cones, Nets

- 15x25 yard grid

- 4x8 sized goals

Organization:

- 1 grid, separate players into 2 teams

Implementation:

- Attacker and Defender go 1v1

- Attacker tries to score in the right or left goal

- Attacker must be beyond the scoring zone/line in order for the goal to count

- As soon as the attacker scores or defender clears the ball from the zone, the initial attacker becomes the defender and goes 1v1 against the newest attacker (the original defender collects the ball and returns to the starting line). Play for 10-20 minutes. The team at the end of the game with the most goals wins.

Game (30 mins)

Equipment

- Balls, Bibs, Cones, Nets (ensure that balls are placed at the outside of the goals)

Organization

- Format is dependent on the age of the players

Play 4v4, 5v5 or 6v6 and adjust the field size accordingly

- Start with 1/4 of full field as per diagram

- Game with regular game rules

Coaching Points

- Look to make interventions when the players lose their team shape (clumping) or when players "don't stay in their position"

- Within the game don't forget to coach the prinicples of attack and look for opportunities for players to take on opponents 1v1 to get into the space in behind the opponent. Also look for opportunities for attacking players to change direction on the dribble, as per the supporting exercises.

1) Penetration

2) Support

3) Mobility (Movement)

4) Shape (Width and Depth)

5) Improvision

Please ensure that the players cool down after the game/training session. The players should do a light jog for at least 3 minutes, followed by a 3 minute static stretch.
