Description

The BIG Picture

At the conclusion of this unit, the pupils will be able to perform ways of turning and running with the ball in opposed situations.

WALT

Today we are learning to recognise space and when and when not to accelerate with the ball.

TIB

Scanning the area and being aware of space allows players to travel with the ball quickly when attacking. E.g Leicester City counter attack quickly through players like Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez.

WILF

ALL - will be able to develop and improve efficiency of movement when travelling with the ball.

MOST - will be able to use basic turns and be aware of space to move into.

SOME - will be able to scan the area and select the appropriate technique to travel with the ball .

Organisation

Area: 25x25 yards, with four 5x5 yard boxes.

Each player is given a ball and they are free to move anywhere in the area.

How to play

Players travel with the ball to a square, moving from square to square.

Use 2 players as taggers to encourage players with the ball to move quickly and evade the taggers.

Progressions

1. How many squares can players stop a ball in.

2. Players move around performing different turns in each square.

RWTB - Recognising opportunities (15 mins)

Organisation

Area: 25x25 yards, with four 5x5 yard boxes.

Each player is given a ball and they are free to move anywhere in the area.

How to play

Players travel with the ball to a square, leave the ball in the square then move to find a new ball.

When retrieving the ball, players use a variety of ways to turn.

Progressions

1. How many squares can players stop a ball in.

2. Use players as defenders to tag players moving into squares.

3. Players move around performing different turns in each square.

4. Change size of area and squares.

RWTB - Aussie Rules game (15 mins)

Organisation

Area: 30x20 yards with 3 goals at each end.

4v4 is the recommended numbrs, but will be dependent on space and number of players.

Different coloured bibs for the teams.

How to play

Team in possession aim to score by running the ball through the different gates.

The middle gate is worth 2 points and the side ghates are worth 1 point.

Progressions

1. Give each team a numerical advantage for five minutes and see which team socres the mkost goals. Team underloaded can gain two points for each goal.

2. Reduce or increase the size of the area.

3. Run off area becomes an end zone, and if players can run through and turn back out of the area, they gain 3 points.

4. Make the practice multi-directional once a team has scored through one set of goals they can keep the ball and attack the other.
