Session Objective: To improve the players ability receive the ball in tight areas and maintain possession.
Skill Training (25 mins):
2 grids (2 groups of 10)
5v5, objective is to run the ball through any of the 3 goals. Want to see players taking a first touch before doing something with the ball but do not want to discourage one touch play. When goal is scored or ball is out of play, play restarts from alternate end with a new ball. Once the balls run out, all players to collect one & re-set the field.
After 10 minutes, game to turn into 5 v 4 and team with 4 has a GK. Attack team (5) can only score goals in the centre (Yellow goals), team with 4 can still score by running balls through any goal.
Player Tasks:
Keep the field as big as you can when in possession.
Move the ball away from danger and in the direction you want to travel
Early release to avoid pressure
Communicate with your team mates.
Coaches Cues:
Can your first touch be forward?
Are you able to see where the ball is coming from and where you want to go with it?
Can you make the pitch any bigger?
Does the ball need to stop with your first touch?
Step Up's: Maximum 3 touches ust play the way you are facing - limit touches - all players must touch before it can be a goal.
Step down: passive / shadow defending
Hidden learning: if attack team looses the ball, need to quickly transition into a BPO position (make the field small) to try and win back possession / stop a goal being scored as quick as possible.
